Hi
My first post, breaking my mn virginty.
Our 12yr old dog has got wet in rain few times this week. He's getting pretty niffy,I went out earlier and could smell him in lounge.
He hates being showered and its not very nice experience washing him. We're in ground flat with wet room and he managed to flood hall last time.
I'm just wondering if theres any good dry type deodorising sprays out there. Could anyone recommend any or would I be better just washing him. Any anti dog pong tips be really appreciated. Thanks :)

Will watch with interest! Teddy usually gets a spritz off 'doggy perfume' at the groomer's, but each time rolls over to get rid of the smell. Stinky boy!

I bought a bottle of the Dogs Trust dry shampoo. I found it in the supermarket although I guess a pet shop would sell something. It smells nice. Nicer than the wet stinky dog. Grin

I keep a tube of Fox Poo Shampoo for emergencies. I think our house smells a bit of wet dog, but that is more to do with my lack of attraction to the hoover than the dogs.

ancol baby powder dog fragrance, my dogs stink and people are always commenting on how lovely they smell, I am anti bathing dogs if it can be helped. this one

The groomer we use has different scents for dogs and bitches. And she has different scents for different seasons.Grin

Thanks everyone. I don't think he'd like going to a groomer. He's a miserable bugger ?? probably bite them he has to be muzzled at vets.
I'll have a look in supermarket for the dogs trust one tomorrow .The baby powder scented cologne sounds lovely too, will have to try that as well.
I'm not into bathing them if it can be helped, his coat goes all funny and curly for few days afterwards. Plus I think it can make his coat/skin dry and he's a right pain in the arse. ( love him to bits really)

Why are people anti bathing dogs? I have a lab who swims in the sea a lot and I bath her all the time, doesn't seem to adversely affect her! Genuinely asking as worried I shouldn't be bathing her so much (once or twice a fortnight).

Dieu · 09/11/2015 23:31

I'm the same Lithlingow. My Shih Tzu is a mud and water magnet (has thick, longish fur and is not far off ground level) and a skoosh of doggy cologne just wouldn't cut it!

ditavonteesed · 10/11/2015 07:08

my spaniel get really dry skin if I bathe him too much and it affects their wateerproofness and he likes to swim.

sandgrown · 10/11/2015 07:14

I was told bathing too often takes the oils out of the coat and causes skin problems. I have a very smelly Shih Tzu so will try the dry shampoo

Lonecatwithkitten · 10/11/2015 07:49

Dogs coats are designed to be water resistant so too much bathing with shampoo strips the oils that create the water resistance and disturbs the natural balance of the coat and skin making problems more likely.

My dog rolled in something absolutely eye wateringly bad on Sunday and I have just bought some Animology Dirty Dawg dry shampoo. Think it has helped but am waiting to go out and come back in to see if I can still smell him !

Lithlingow · 11/11/2015 08:00

OK thanks for that, I have been blessed with a do who suffers no adverse effects and still appears to be waterproof!
