My Berkeley has tongue cancer

Sad news today. Berkeley was having trouble eating and drinking as if he couldn't use his tongue so they took a look and said possibly a tumour and big infected hole under his tongue. He had an op today to clean and have a closer look and it is cancer... very aggressive. His whole tongue has been invaded. There is nothing they can do. We were told they could not wake him up from the sedation if we preferred but we decided to bring him home. I feel sure he has some more happy days left. Feeling so very sad. My lovely, funny old boy. He is nearly 16 and I know they have to go of something one day but it has been a massive shock. I love him with all my heart.

Sorry phone issues!

He has to go out every couple of hours, bless him.

YY to this being extra time, we also decided not to pts earlier and so glad we didn't.

If only we could live so blissfully in the moment hey, no worrying about the past or future. They really have it sorted.
Yes that is definately describing jacks to a tee. Couldn't get better companions Grin.
i don't think any of us who truly love our dogs are cut out for the emotional turmoil they bring. I wish you both peace and fun times and really hope you enjoy the gazing at him for long to come.

That's sweet, thank you. I'm more cheerful today. Berks has had a good day and is very happy indeed. Other than the fact he can't use his tongue hardly at all so we have to help him eat and drink, you would not know there was an issue. He has quickly learnt that if he stands near his water bowl I will soon be over with my syringe to help him. I don't think he is in pain now. It must be a huge relief to him to finally have that load of ulcerated and dead tissue removed. Imagine having all that under your tongue. Bleh. So he is feeling like life begun again... know what I mean. Yeah, an ideal way to be. How great to not know and to live each day like that... like there would never be an end.

Sorry to hear you have to keep taking your dog out for a wee Cupcakes. That's tough. No wonder you are so shattered. Berks has always used a dog flap but on the steroids he doesn't always make it. What with him and our other elderly dog (who refuses to use the dog flap) we clean up about 4-5 pees a day. Good job we have hard floors.

Flowers Flowers to you both - it is so hard to bear and waiting for the inevitable
I keep looking at my 12yo 'lurch' and knowing that in a year or 2 I will probably be facing a dog-shaped hole in my life. Sad

Bless you, it's awful isn't it. With Berks he was doing so well into his old age and then suddenly absolutely everything went wrong - dementia, massive heart murmur, breathing issues, back legs went etc... and now this.
