Oh dearSad
Could it be anything NOT to worry about?
I will take her to the vet tomorrow. What should I prepare myself for?

She is actually the best dog in the world...

Is she spayed it is more likely to be something innocent. If she is not spayed then it is riskier.

aw x i love poodles

Don't panic. It may be a lipoma. They're very common but you obviously need to get it checked out.

Thanks haff. I hope so...

I posted a very similar panicky message here less than a year ago and another kind poster told me about lipomas. They happen in older dogs, often in mammary areas.

My dog's now got visible large lumps on her tummy and under her 'arm' - all checked out by fine needle aspiration and found to be benign. She is now Mrs Blobby.

Thanks haff. Fingers crossed it's the same thing.
Got an appt for late afternoon.

Well it's a tumour of some sort they think. She squeezed the relevant teat and bloody fluid came out. She is going to surgically remove the mass next week and tgen send it off to see if it is benign or malignant.
Oh dear. I don't have a good feeling about it. Poor poodle.

Mammary masses are really common in unspayed bitches...we see them lots which is a shame but some dogs do well post surgery for a period of time. Most vets will want to spay at the same time as removal to remove the hormonal element.

Fingers crossed for your a good result!

Haffdonga · 28/10/2015 19:57

Oh dear. Hope it's benign, Good luck Freshdog.

Thanks everyone for reassurance and good wishes. She is getting lots of cuddles in the sofa tonight - covered in kids!

Our 9 year old springer had a lump in her mammary tissue this time last year - vet operated immediately, as it had grown very quickly, and spayed at the same time. He did say a lot of them were benign, unfortunately when it was sent off for analysis hers was found to be malignant but he had removed all the mammary tissue in that area (3 teats worth I think) as a precaution. She made an amazingly quick recovery and has been fine since (has just had another check up).

Hoping all goes well for your poodle.

freshmint · 02/11/2015 07:42

Thanks v much dotty, that's good to know. I'm so glad your dog is well. So what have you been told about her future prognosis? Just keep an eye on her and deal with any future lumps if you find them?

Yes, to monitor very closely, and whenever she goes into the vets for anything now he always palpates her abodomen very thoroughly. He did say that removing all the tissue on that side, not just where the lump was, and the fact that hopefully we caught it very early, meant a reasonable chance that it would have spread and might not recur, but I just feel we have been lucky so far.
