Help with Grooming

My Working Cocker Spaniel is generally well behaved, and though he is a bit stubborn about some bits of his training ('leave it' took WAY longer than it should have done!), is relatively easy to teach. BUT, what I cannot do, is persuade him to sit still and be groomed by me (he's perfect with the groomer, but I can't take him there very day!). I have tried all kinds of combs and brushes, even soft ones just for smoothing, he treats them all as toys to be grabbed and hidden.

There's obviously something I did wrong in the beginning, but I really need to get him more tolerant. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks, Pot, I think it is the one thing I have been impatient with and tried to go too fast. I love that intense concentration look they get when you tell them to 'leave it'! I will go and top up the pouch right now.

Do you have a bench or table to put him on? If he's fine for the groomer he will be used to standing on a grooming table. My 5 year olds little outdoor bench doubles up as a perfect grooming table for our dog. If I try to groom him on the floor he thinks it's playtime but once he's on the table he stands no bother.

Smart, thinking, Rabbit, I'm going to combine that with the treat pouch.

Just to say, we've managed ears and back, hopefully can build up to the tricky bits on the legs tail and tummy another day Smile.

Sometimes you just need someone to remind you of the simple things.
