Lurcher/greyhound has been very sick in the night, she sleeps in a large crate and has been sick in it over night, no noise or whimpering so we didn't know Sad

I have cleaned everything up and bathed her but she is clearly not well.
She is moving really slowly (when she moves) curled up on the sofa looking extremely sorry for herself. She drank lots of water when she got up but then puked it up.

Has just been sick again yellowy foam (sorry!)

Stood perfectly still in the bath and even when i had finished drying her she just stood still for ages.

Is it something to just keep an eye on or does is sound more serious?

She is 11mths old and just finished her first season if that is relevant.

I have googled but most say sick is normal if otherwise well but she clearly isn't.

Thanks in advance

Take her to a vets she sounds quite unwell.

Has she eaten anything she shouldn't have? Is she weeing ok? Any vile discharge from her vulva? Non neutered bitches are at risk of womb infections which can be fatal after a season.

If she is clearly unwell and has been sick I definitely wouldn't leave her until tomorrow. It.might just be a gastro bug but could be something more serious.

Thankyou bim, we have a large secure garden and she went out earlier for her morning wee but I didn't actually see her go, DH let her out and he has gone out.

No discharge I can see, i am not 100% certain she has stopped bleeding, i keep thinking it's done and then finding more drips. It seems less swollen today though.

I was working last night so PIL were looking after her (we live next door) she had chewed a cardboard folder when i got in but it was like a thick cardboard envelope so nothing too worrying and she doesn't look to have swallowed any of it.

She isn't a mad chewer really, just occasionally finds a childs toy she can gnaw on!

I think i will phone the vet for advice. Thanks so much for your response Flowers

How worrying. Hope she's okay op

You are very welcome. For what it's worth I have a whippet bitch and she has had a couple of upset tummies over the years. A course of abs and a bland diet usually sorts her out.

Scrambled eggs, plain chicken breast and boiled rice all help settle a tummy. And there is a paste you can buy to help with the squits. Its called prokalin I think. About £11 a tube off petmeds websites.

Helps dry up and settle runny tummies until the abs kick in.

I'd ring a vet for advice, she sounds more unwell than I'd be happy to leave until tomorrow if that makes sense. The yellow foamy stuff is bile (as I understand it), if nothing else the vet maybe able to give her an anti-sickness jab to make her feel more comfortable.

bimandbam · 11/10/2015 19:56

How is she doing op?

GoofyIsACow · 11/10/2015 20:01

How funny, was just coming back to update and you posted bimbam!

She slept curled up in a ball all day. She only moved once to have a drink.

I ummed and ahhed all day about ringing the vet, when we had roast dinner and she didn't even move I decided I would ring, i was looking up the number and she was stood next to my leg. We all went outside to play hide and seek and she did her usual trick of standing next to me and giving my hiding place away. Picked up her ball and stood giving me her goofy 'thrown it' face and has been back to herself again ever since. Ate some chicken and is now laid full length with her feet in the air next to me taking up the entire sofa!

I will see how she goes for the next 24 hrs but to look at her now she is a different dog to this morning!

Thankyou all for your advice and concern Flowers

Glad she is feeling a bit better. Hopefully it is just a tummy bug. You can always take her tomorrow if she is unwell in the night again. It's not a womb infection if she is up and playing anyway!

Had to phone bloody vets myself this afternoon for dpony. Sigh. Will be an £100 call out plus about another £50 of drugs. Plus some tests in a few weeks and probably a lifetime of meds.

Should stick with teddies. Less expensive and certainly less worry!

Definitely get some prokalin in for her though. Sighthounds are pretty resilient to most things but do suffer with dodgy tummies. Never sure if it's my whippets tendancy to steal and eat inappropriate things or just a delicate tum that causes it. But it's definitely effective and cheaper to buy and have to hand than pay £20 from the vet when you do need it.

GoofyIsACow · 11/10/2015 21:14

Oh no, bloomin animals, hope it's nothing too complicated with dpony!

I will do that, thankyou. Glad to hear she is not alone with her food pinching, you would think we never fed her!

My whippet is the same. Sigh.

She has put on 2k since I had ds 2 years ago. Vet asked when I had her last vacs what has changed management wise. I said nothing really. I still walk her the same. Still buy the same dog food. But she never eats it as she lives on toddler food he either throws for her or she steals.

And we moved house last year and kitchen worktops are about 3 inch lower down which means everything is within jumping up and pinching height. She robbed half a pancake roll and a bit of.chow mein earlier while I was putting bin out.

Grin

I was trying to persuade DS1 to come to the table the other day to eat his tea, he was being a pain and not coming, saying no, battle of wills etc... Looked round, dog is enjoying his bowl full of lasagne from the table, he had to have cheese on toast! Angry Grin

My greyhound lurcher (best dogs ever!!) had a tummy bug at beginning of year which sounds really similar. We took her to vet (ooh as it was New Year's Day!!) and she was given anti sickness jag, was no improvement by next day so we got another one. I was worried sick, she just wasn't herself and looked so miserable! When she finally got her appetite back it was such a relief - I had convinced myself she was on her way out!!

They are such a worry.

Glad your pooch is feeling a lot better.
