I need footwear/boot for dog walking. Have very achey feet due to hears of point shoes! Need a wellie type that comes calf/knee length but always think wellies are uncomfortable. At the moment using walking boots and getting wet legs!

Thanks Smile.

How about walking boots with either gaitors or waterproof trousers?

Eliza22 · 06/10/2015 07:25

Thanks Motherof. DH suggested that but I thought I'd prefer something boot-like just to pull on and go. Might price them up though. Puppy is still quite jumpy so have many pairs of jeans/leggings with we holes in the thighs now!

Ahh I see, we're not in the UK so I don't have many other ideas I'm afraid, I sometimes wear my suede riding chaps, but that's probably not much help!

Eliza22 · 06/10/2015 08:08

Grin me....in chaps!

Thanks anyway.

Dunlop wellies. They do calf length ones rather than full length.

Or hiking boots and some pull on waterproof trousers.

Many more threads about this if you do a search "best dog walking boots"

Hope you find something that suits! Agree with posters on above threads that snow boots or muck boots (from horse & country type shops) might be your best bet.

I wear walking boots in summer and Autumn through Spring I wear my Hunter leather Balmoral Montrose. Shearling lined so lovely and warm completely waterproof with an amazing sole. Dubarrys are also amazing for this but both a way pricier than wellies. I've heard great things about muck boots.

Floralnomad · 06/10/2015 10:53

Aigle wellingtons are very comfortable but at the moment I'm in a pair of Dublin country boots ,they are very lightweight ,comfortable and my current pair are going strong 2 years on - they also look more stylish than most wellies .

Eliza22 · 06/10/2015 11:29

Have read a few reviews of Muck boots but a number say the only problem with them is that there's no wicking so, your feet sweat and then get cold. No, don't want that!

Cannot afford Dubarry (they look amazing quality). Anyone tried Rhinegold brand? They look similar and seem to review well. They're around £70.

i recently bought a pair of expensive wellies >£100 but less than my walking boots, they are lovely difficult to get them off me now.
My walking boots are sulking.

TPel · 06/10/2015 11:40

Country boots all the way. More comfortable than wellies and waterproof too.

cathpip · 06/10/2015 11:48

Toggi do a cheaper version of Dubarrys and they are really comfy, wear mine all day when I'm pheasant beating.

Toooldtobearsed · 06/10/2015 11:54

I bought these last year and they have been brilliant!

Rinse crap off under a tap, they are warm, waterproof and comfortable, and last but not least, cheapWink

I've had muck boots before and I found that they were not flexible enough around the ankles , the same problem with cheaper wellies ,personally I find it's the flexing at the ankles that defines whether a boot is comfortable for a long walk . Equestrian Clearance usually have some good deals on country boots .

Eliza22 · 06/10/2015 13:59

Cathpip I looked at the Toggi brand. Good price and Dubarry-like. What are the sizes like....reviews suggest they come up big?

I've got Toggis and am about to throw them out tbh! I find them really baggy around my ankles and calves so I have to tie the lace on the cuff up everso tight to keep them on. Also the leather has creased really badly on the back of the heels - it folds inwards and rubs against the back of my legs just above the ankles. I took a photo as I was going to send them back but didnt get round to it, but you can probably see what I mean!

I wear Hunters (although they arent as well made as they used to be) with decent walking socks and find them really comfy and light.

Eliza22 · 07/10/2015 13:20

Thanks for that Follyfoot.

No one tried Rhinegold brand, then?
