Needing to vent - dog been attacked today

As it says really. My beautiful boy was attacked today out of the blue. If he hasn't been wearing his coat at the time I can't imagine the damage that would have been done. It was so fast and yet looking back now I should've seen it coming. Miserable pooch only cheered up by ample application of roast chicken. Sad

Two separate injuries. Thankfully they are grazes and not punctures.

Poor thing! It happened to my dog a few months ago. I saw it coming, but not in time to get ddog away. The other owner was drunk and stupid Angry

Give your boy some extra cuddles. You probably both need them.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 20/09/2015 20:11

So sorry Op. I have a dog aggressive dog. It's awful. Please be aware the other dog owners are feeling absolutely awful. I know how I'd feel if beautiful non aggressive DDog2 was attacked. Flowers to you and DDog.

TooOldForGlitter · 20/09/2015 20:13

This owner was drunk too. Dog not on lead. In fact she didn't even have a lead with her. She beat the absolute hell out of the dog after we got it off mine so now I feel sorry for the poor thing.

Oh gawd, poor other dog Sad At least your dog has you on his side.

TooOldForGlitter · 20/09/2015 20:16

For anybody in the area it happened in Fleetwood by the radar station. Woman was blonde, thirty to forty, dog was border terrier, black and tan, called whisky.

I'm reporting tomorrow. It won't help my boy but I'd like to think it could help the dog who got him. She picked it up off the floor to her face height and it pissed itself in fear. I thought it was my dogs blood at first Sad

That's so sad, urinating itself is awful, extreme fear. Maybe you could help the poor dog op. And hopefully preventing them having a dog again.

TooOldForGlitter · 20/09/2015 20:59

I can't really see my phonecall making a difference but just maybe this woman is 'known' and something can be done.

That's shocking. Poor glitterdog and poor other dog :( :(

TooOldForGlitter · 20/09/2015 23:18

He's cheered up a little. Think the painkillers are kicking in. I'm so bloody furious, the more I think about it. He had a perfect opportunity. The attacking dog came around to his shoulder. He could've whipped his head and bitten it in two. He turned his head the other way and that second have my amazing, wonderful 74 year old dad the chance to boot the other one away so we could run. Fucking hell I can't stop replaying it in my head!

I sympathise, OP. Our dog was attacked by a GSD and it was brutal - so fast and v scary. He was never the same with GSDs after that and always gave them a v wide berth. Are you sure his injuries are just scrapes? Our boy didn't look too bad from the outside - just a few small cuts but under the skin he was ripped apart and it took the vet a long time to stitch him up as the muscle damage & bruising was so bad.

TooOldForGlitter · 21/09/2015 11:08

It's really difficult to tell to be honest. The one on his shoulder looks OK today so i'm as sure as I can be that it is just a graze. The one on his side is a bit worse but his coat did protect him a lot. He won't come downstairs at all today Sad

OP posts:
JohnCusacksWife · 21/09/2015 11:29

Please take him to the vets to get checked out. You'd never have believed the extent of our boys injuries form what you could see externally. Plus if he's badly bruised, as our boy was, that can cause the skin to break down. Worth a visit just to make sure he's ok.

TooOldForGlitter · 21/09/2015 13:34

I am going to see how he goes today. Just got him downstairs and took him for a short walk.

Reported the attack to the local council but I don't expect anything will come of it. Not sure if I would be wasting their time if I report to the police.

Is your dog a lurcher/grey?

poor thing

sinninginacorner · 23/09/2015 16:33

Is fleetwood under blackpool council? I live in Fylde but when my ddog was attacked in Stanley park I reported it to blackpool council and they were v helpful and called me back a few weeks later to let me know the other dog had been put into kennels as it was being neglected by its owners.

TooOldForGlitter · 24/09/2015 10:22

He's a greyhound.

Fleetwood comes under Wyre Council and I reported it to them, I also emailed the police in Fleetwood but they said that they don't get involved unless the council refer it to them. Presumably as it's dog on dog it's not really classed as serious.

Mine is fine now. He had a trip to the vet who confirmed it was just bruising/grazes. While at the vet we found a third very large area of bruising, I can't imagine how badly hurt he would be if he hadn't been wearing his coat, it saved him it really did. (it was a milgi coat and I know she is on here, so thank you!)

so glad to hear he is fine
sad that such a gentle dog (which greyhounds are) was set upon by an out of control dog. - and an out of control owner
I felt upset seeing the photo of him lying in the garden looking woebegone - it does break your heart to see them so traumatised.

BabyGanoush · 24/09/2015 15:50

I was thinking that too

Greys are so gentle and sensitive

Hope he's ok

TooOldForGlitter · 25/09/2015 19:55

He's fine physically, thank you.

He was run at today by a little dog on an extendy lead which went underneath him and tangled us both up and he growled which he's never ever done before. I had strong words for the owner.

I really really empathise and sympathise with this. My black lab was first attacked at only 16 weeks old and needed staples in his face .He recovered both physically and emotionally from that( with a lot of hard work on our part) and was fine with other dogs. Then at 9 months he was attacked from behind by a dog when on his lead walking along a pavement. After that he was attacked entirely unprovoked when at the dog sitters.Since then he is still fine with other dogs but obviously frightened when on his lead. He will take a wide berth when passing another dog on a lead and now lies down whenever another dog approaches. He hasn't yet felt the need to tip over into aggression but I won't be at all surprised if he does and it makes me really cross. I too have had sharp words with a couple of owners who let their dogs bully mine with growling and lunging at him right in front of their eyes and haven't felt the need to stop their dogs behaving in that way even when I have asked them to recall their dogs. I have even been met with the response that" he's friendly " as the dog was lunging and snapping at mine. ........ Rant over....!!

MarcoPoloCX · 26/09/2015 07:00

I am now wearing a body cam to record my walks after this stupid woman denied her dog attacked mine when I reported it to the police. It's a huge dog and if it pulls, she wouldn't be able to hold on to it. And it has attacked other dogs before. And yet she lets it off lead and not muzzle it.

WhoAteMyToast · 02/10/2015 00:01

Such a sad picture of your poor dog in the garden; hope he is better now.
