I've just got a lovely 6 year old rescue dog (Heinz 57) for myself and DD (6), and I'm worried it's going to be too much. What most concerns me is that DD will get bored with taking the dog for daily walks - I'm at work in the day, and there's noone to leave DD with, so it means we'll always have to go together early evening (we do have a small garden so dog can go out in the garden other times too). Is this just cold feet (it's only day 1!), or have I made a mistake? Any thoughts appreciated.

Has your dd got a bike or scooter as that makes walks more interesting for children .

I think almost everyone who gets a dog or dogs goes through an "oh my God what have I done" wobble at first. Its a big change but very soon you feel like they've always been there and you couldn't imagine life without them.

The first time we took on one of the breed which we now have, I thought long and hard (breed is known for being challenging to own), and I had a wobble for the first 48 hours, and I've had dogs all my life. Some years later we now have two of that breed and another "difficult" breed, all rescue dogs.

Give it some time Smile
