Insurance recommendations?

Just that really, can anyone recommend a company for dog insurance?

We used to have 'more than' years ago, which we did make use of but the cover wasn't that great, eg our dog had a lump removed from his ear, then we were excluded from any other ear related illnesses.

I think we would be looking for a 'covered for life' type policy. Can anyone recommend a company? So far I've only come up with pet plan. Any other things we should look for in a policy?

PetPlan are good. Pricey but worth it. Full life cover and apparently no quibble on claims. Also your vet should be able to send any invoice straight to them, rather than you have to shell out thousands and then try and claim it back. I have heard that you should always go for the maximum coverage that they offer because even simple procedures can be very expensive these days. And make sure any conditions are covered for life, so if anything crops up again they won't say that they've paid out for that already and won't cover it again.

Pet plan. No quibbles about paying out.

Marks and spencer have paid out twice in consecutive years for the same chest infection and he's still covered. They are also very quick on oaying a claim.

John Lewis premium cover is what we have. Haven't had any accidents or illness (touch wood!) so haven't had to use it, but my vet tells me they're very good. I chose them because Which? rated them as no.1.

Just remember any new company will also exclude any 'pre-existing conditions' when you make your first claim you agree to your vet providing the entire medical history ( usually faxed !!!) so they can cruise through for pre-existing conditions.

We were with pet plan for years and couldn't fault them, apart from being very pricey.

We are now with direct line and pay the same for two dogs that we did for one with petplan.
We haven't had any issues, they paid out when bonkers spaniel had to have an emergency operation on New Year's Day, but the money took much longer to come through.

If you can afford it, go with petplan every time. If you can't, we're finding direct line ok.
