I have been looking out for a new puppy for a while now, seen one advertised online near-ish to us so went to view today. We got there to be greeted by a friendly lady who had two dogs in a crate in the kitchen (one preggers) and the pups in the back yard...in a pen with shed, no blankets. Mum was locked in a pen at back of the yard with two other bitches one of same breed the other different. Mum was lovely and friendly but thin with little teats so obviously hadn't fed pups in a while. Pups are a little over 7 weeks, all were different sizes with bloated belly's but the one we went to view was sad, hiding at the back of the shed, could barely stand up, tail between legs. She was beautiful she tried to wag her tail but had no energy, she also had a runny nose and heat going like the clappers. I think she had parvovirus. I felt sick as soon as I saw the set up and knew instantly that I would not be giving this woman my money. I felt awful leaving the pup there. Feeling terrible about all the dogs :-(
I have reported her.

I don't know much about puppies but I think you did the right thing. Who did you report her to?

Gileswithachainsaw · 22/08/2015 21:09

Well done fir reporting.

Poor poor babies Sad

RSPCA but with their response times the pups will probably be gone (by whatever means) by the time they get there and all will go back to usual business. The adults were well watered and friendly. House clean (too clean ime) for dog owners. Pups had no blankets and kept outside at night...I think without mum.

The RSPCA might not visit at all, judging by people's experiences on here.

It might be better to get in touch with the breed association - that's assuming they were advertised as being a breed and not mongrels.

My DB last year went to view a puppy, when he got there the house was awful and it was a young lad that opened the door and said he was selling the two puppies for his nan. When DB looked into the crate, two little pups were hiding and both had to be dragged out by the boy - covered in poo and wee. My DB knows he should have left there and then but he didn't and he bought one of the pups as he said he couldn't leave it (wanted to take the other one too, but couldn't afford both).

When the vet checked it over, the pup was only about 5/6 weeks old and after a week became very very poorly and was in the vets for two weeks. He turned out ok in the end and pulled through.

These people make my blood boil, they really do.

DB reported everything and nothing was done.

If they claim to be a licensed / registered breeder report them to the council.

Poor puppies, but walking away was the right thing to do.

You could try some of the options listed here.

sanfairyanne · 23/08/2015 02:59

report them to the tax office - they might be more interested Sad probably cash in hand

SuburbanRhonda · 23/08/2015 09:41

That's a great link, trionic Smile

That must have been so hard but well done to you for walking away, you have absolutely done the right thing.
If more people could do the same there would be a smaller market for these people.
If you tell us what kind of pup you are looking for I am sure someone on here will find one for you....

Squigglybear · 23/08/2015 19:45

oh no PUGaLUGS that's awful...I wanted to rescue that pup but could not pay that woman the money to encourage her to keep going. I'm afraid that the RSPCA will be too late (if they even manage to go to the house) and the pups gone. I'm sure she will have a feasible excuse for what is going on there. As I say the other dogs were friendly, watered and the big dogs in reasonable condition. Some people keep dogs outside...no law against that. But no sign that the pups were brought in at night. Thanks sanfairyanne the RSPCA recommended trading standards too so will look at that tomorrow. Great link trionic thanks. Too true bubble...I'm after a lab but you know I have found one already and from a reputable source all good and nothing at all like the experience I had yesterday.

It was absolutely the right thing to do.
We didn't do this seven years ago and we are still dealing with the fallout from our decision :(
DDog1 is anxious, unpredictable round other dogs, not particularly sound and prone to bouts of what I could only describe as depression. We got him when he was 16 weeks and totally confirmed the "breeders" belief that someone, somewhere will part with their hard earned cash to rescue a puppy from a bad situation Angry

A lesson learned anyway :(
