Raw food advice

Evening All,

I'm currently dry feeding my golden retriever but for many reasons I think raw feeding is the way forward for him. Only problem is I'm completely flummoxed as to which way is best. I think practicality wise I need the easiest option to start even if it's slightly more expensive- does anyone have any recommendations?

I used to raw feed my Weimaraner when she was younger, I got packets of minced raw meat or fish from pets at home. They had big freezers with the packages in and I had a separate small chest freezer at home that could hold a good couple of weeks supply.

I don't think it was too expensive about £1 a day but that was about 7 years ago.

Not sure if that is any help but it was certainly an easy way to do it

Join Raw Feeding UK group on FB. Their basis is the Dog's Dinner website. Great group, loads of info, lots of info in the Files section, inc suppliers.

When you're a bit more confident, you can order online. For eg, order a same pack from Raw2Go.

Sprats, raw eggs, green tripe is all good. But big bag of frozen tripe "pellets" from P@H and you can add some to nearly every meal. Frozen means smell isn't quite so disgusting!

You really don't need tons of freezer space. I could fit in about 10 days of food for 15kg dog in 1 small freezer drawer.

Nutriment is better than Nature's Menu in my opinion, NM has a lower meat content and both of my dogs lost weight on it.

There are a number of "ready made" raw foods out there now which do the hard work for you and are a good way to ease into raw. We liked www.basilsdogfood.co.uk/Basil's when starting out.

I started off on Nutriment, still use it as part of dogs meal. As mentioned above, the Facebook groups raw and holistic, and raw feeding advice are very useful. I steered clear of the Natures Menu completes, as they either contain grain (rice) or a very large proportion of fruit and veg which didn't agree with my dog. Nutriment has a list of stockists on website or you can order direct. When you get more confident, look at websites that deliver, like Naturaw and Paleo Ridge.
