What tricks / commands does your dog know?

What 'tricks' can your dog do? I have run out of inspiration after the usual Walk, Come, Sit, Stay. Ddog also does Roll Over, Paw, Nose touch. Long distance Lie Down is still very much work. in progress.

I feel I should be making better use of the summer holidays by doing more. What else can I do ?

The best trick my dog has is to ignore everything you tell him to do.

Another wossis dog here but I have to wave the bag of treats to make sure she comes back. Her latest trick is spread-em and she dies pathetically slowly when DH says bang. She does different things for different family members and never humiliates herself performs in front of visitors Grin

She gets her revenge on the humans - whenever something good comes on the telly its time to play fetch and if we ignore her she gets her squeakiest toy out of the box and rolls on it until we give up and press pause.

Eat, go to toilet and sleep.

I have inadvertently taught both my dogs to stare very hard at me when I'm grating cheese Blush

My weimaraner has taught me to open and close the back door for her constantly Angry

My dogs know hand signals as well as voice commands, I've always found it useful in case I lose my voice, or they lose their hearing. I've also taught them some of my facial expressions, so if I snap my fingers once, it means look at me for direction, then I give them a look, usually to warn them to be on guard around a particular person if I don't want to say it out loud.

They know sit, stay, down, up, wait, stand down, all clear, to me, enough, now, halt, away, there, drop, no biting, silence, calm, easy, steady, leave it, now, help, friend, enemy, on guard, guard x (eg, guard DS), inside, outside, nobody past (as in, don't let anyone past this point), bring x or y (an object, or get a person).

I think that's it. Ddog3 is still learning them all (rescue pup) but she's very fast and eager. Ddog1 and 2 are brilliant at them. I've really enjoyed training our dogs, I don't get them to do tricks, but I have done some schutzhund work with them from time to time.

"Eat" she does that one particularly well, also the one with the squeaky toy and the tv watching Grin

Loving some of the other ideas. I had also forgotten 'sleep' (I wasn't allowed to teach 'bang or dead'.

Would love to teach a bow, but she doesn't do it very often so I think it would be hard to teach.
Reverse, limping, send away and mark might be the next ones to aim for ....

Sit
Down
Wait
Stay
Dead
Bang
Spin (twirl in a circle)
Touch
Off
Find - whatever you've shown him before hiding it, or things he knows the name of like ball or the cats.
Drop
Leave
Take it
Buzz - which is a sequence of come, spin, touch and sit.
Pee...pretty self explanatory, lol.
Move...move over, back or just generally out of the way.
Heel
Up (usually into the car)
Mouth - opens his mouth to take tablets or have his teeth brushed.
Bed

He empties the washing machine, but I just sort of gesture.

He knows paw and shut the door, but he's not encouraged to do those anymore because he has bad legs.

Less fun or useful, what have you got? Appears to mean run off to your bed with something in your mouth and then look shifty.

ashtrayheart · 29/07/2015 23:58

Sit. Paw. Other paw. MOVE!

GemmaTeller · 30/07/2015 07:58

The cat has trained the dog that he has priority over which of them goes through a door first...

Trick training nerd alert..........

I clearly have far too much time on my hands. Ddog competes in obedience and does agility too, so has all the associated commands for that, plus I teach a tricks class and have competed in HTM , so she has a LOT of tricks to her name.
Let's just say I have to write down what words I've used for each thing to avoid confusing her.(and me!!) .....we are at well over 100 commands/behaviours. Grin

MeganTrainer · 03/08/2015 17:51

Another trick training nerd here....

YY to having to think about cues. DDog rolls over to "Over" and the first time I asked her to jump an agility jump using the same word she threw herself down in front of it! So now I use "Jump". Words that sound a bit the same confuse her too if I'm not careful.

We used to do a bit of comp Ob too but I have to admit I get an unreasonable amount of pleasure from tricks training. It pleases me and amuses me in equal measure.
