The rescue centre just said hes a mongrel, which he probably is but i was just wondering. Does it really matter? I have a labrador and all the books i have for her are lab specific for training etc.

As long as he gets plenty of exercise and i train him it will be fine wont it?
Also just curious because of size.

I am so excited Grin

Hah I was just coming on here to post the same thing, I knew he looked familiar - Anatolian Shepherd Dog.

Agree he looks a bit daintier than that though, but I definitely reckon there's some of that in him! He's going to be so handsome!

SevenAteNine · 20/07/2015 00:14

He could be anything.

I would suggest a bit of shepherd. But there could be all sorts of dogs in his mix. He doesn't look like he'll grow into a massive dog, but you can't always tell.

He looks intelligent. Bear in mind that an intelligent dog will use its intelligence to do stupid things if you don't give it stimulation, and you'll be very happy together. I'd take a dog like that any day over something from a breeder.

A kill shelter is as awful as it sounds, a shelter that kills unwanted dogs after 7 days / when they run out of space / if no one wants a particular dog

Isn't it just!

We have lots of pounds where dogs end up and only have 7 days, the lucky ones are picked up from there by rescues but there are plenty of pounds that don't have such an arrangement / whose receiving rescues are full and so can't take on any more. It's reckoned around 11000 + healthy dogs a year are put down in UK as just not enough homes / too many of particular breeds. And still people think it's ok to breed their dog as a way to make some quick cash, with idiots like Grazia magazine encouraging them!
Neuter your pets and adopt don't shop if looking for a pet people - please, it's the only way to improve this awful situation! Angry

(ps a good number of supposed 'no kill' places also pts for various non health related reasons, such as deeming a dog as 'aggressive' if it growls / barks at other dogs - hardly a fair test in an over crowded kennel/pound situation, but someone has to make the difficult decision of which is most likely to be rehomed so that's one way they do it!)

Yes they are as bad as they sound unfortunately.

I agree with adopting and not buying, i wasn't fully aware for how bad the situation was when i got out first dog and i got her from a breeder. If i had done my research id have rescued one.Obviously i love my dog but would always rescue now.
