Huskies and cats

Does anyone have any experiences good or bad? DH would love a husky but we have a cat and I've read that they have a very high prey instinct and I'm worried that it would chase/kill the cat. Are they ok/safe if they're raised with a cat from a puppy or is there always going to be a worry that the instinct to kill small furry things that run wI'll kick in?

I don’t the risk is worth losing your beloved cat.

A collie does seem a good fit, ours lives with a cat but would chase if given a chance and herd him.

We have a collie. He has a strong chase drive but seems to lack the shake-kill part of the sequence (not that being chased is nice for a cat!)

However he's extremely trainable and we've successfully managed to broker a sort of peace between the cat and the dog. We do have gates up to prevent chasing but not expecting to need them forever, our puppy is only 6.5 months.

Collie downside: can be sound sensitive, reactive, obsessive. You need to work hard at dealing with these if they start to emerge. Most collies are not naturally bombproof and some may never be.

Mine too, I think this is very typical of the breed.

It can be tricky gaining peace with mine because the cat is so naughty and my collie can’t stand it, she likes the cat to behave herself!

When she was a kitten the collie would follow her around and the second she bit or clawed anyone (as kittens do) she would take great delight in putting her head down and lunging forward, pushing her across the floor/off the sofa with her nose.
Said cat is remarkably child tolerant as an adult, I like to think it’s largely down to my collie’s early training Grin

She likes to claw my furniture aswell and collie reacts the same immediately pushing her away.

She is trained now to quietly lie on the sofa and let me deal with naughty cat but still the second the cat goes towards the sofa edge she’s there glaring at her...

Second GSD. I walk, jog, hike and rollerblade with mine. Shoulf you decide to go for a German Shepherd though- make sure you check the hip scores.
