Puppy Farming

Just watching The Dog Factory on TV. Very upsetting. Poor animals. Programme reckons 1 in 3 dogs bought in UK are from puppy farms. Sad statistics if true, watching the conditions they are born into.

From what ive seen on here it appears that any dog that is not born to a liscened breeeder is considered 'farmed'

A breeder having a licence from the council is actually a massive red flag. It's not necessary to be licensed until the breeder is producing over a certain number of litters per year. There's some variation but most commonly councils require a licence if someone is breeding more than five litters a year.

No decent breeder would produce that many litters a year, it's just not feasible to do so and be doing everything right.

Thanks for that clarification. I have waited for years for right time to ger a dog. I wont buy one without seeing it with the mother in its home environment.
I will definitely look at dogs trust (ive looked in the past but didn't know you had to ring for puppies)

queen, we went in to look round the Dogs Trust, in person and I had no idea pups came up or thought they'd be rare so didn't ask. When we filled out the form, they said to us a pup would suit our needs better (as we already have a cat). So then I just rang every day!
