URGENT - need to rehome my dog (lighthearted!)

She ate HUMAN poo!! Trotting ahead of me in the woods, something suddenly grabs her attention, head down, she's clearly eating something. So i run over and it's clearly human poo as there's some loo roll next to it.

Feel utterly grossed out, what should I do (this is my first dog)?!? Have brushed her teeth and as best I could shampooed the area around her mouth.

Has this ever happened to anyone else and is it bad for her?

Obviously not going to rehome her, she's mainly lovely!!

my previous dog did that to my ds, when he was potty training and I took my eye off the ball Grin so to speak

i am sure that has happened to masses of mnettters

Actually, I am mainly [grinning] at the fact you brushed her teeth afterwards - I am not sure how eating human poo is worse than dog poo?!

Dogs are disgusting creatures, aren't' they? Why do we love them??

Eating dog poo seems more 'naturally' gross as it's at least the same species! A dog eating human poo is more of a poo taboo!

I'm not sure why we love them, but I do love my girl although I didn't like her earlier.

In all seriousness, can someone more experienced reassure me that it won't make her ill?

Is she a lab? When mine found and ate human poo in the woods he smelled horrendous. I couldn't bear to touch him, let alone clean his teeth and wash his face.
I just stayed well away from him the rest of the day and made him sleep on his own in the utility room. Was fine the next day.

Bubble2bubble · 05/05/2015 17:40

Ah yes, been there...

Ddog3 ate some, then rolled in what was left.
Ddog2 thought he smelt so delicious he licked some off ddog3's neck, and then ate the toilet paper.

I actually still feel quite sick thinking about it.

pigsDOfly · 05/05/2015 18:48

Just don't let her lick your face for a while Strickly:) or ever really.

strictlyastrictlyfan · 05/05/2015 19:25

Now I'm counting my blessings that she didn't roll in it! OMG, what did you do?!?!

She is a lab, are they particularly partial to poo?

Thanks all, you've made me feel better.

Labs are particularly partial to anything that could be edible tbh, lol.

Yes it's pretty normal, yes it's disgusting, but it's unlikely to cause her any problems.

PacificDogwood · 05/05/2015 21:02

Labs are particularly partial to anything edible (I use the term in its loosest sense here Grin).

The dog I grew up with (a mutt, oh no, sorry, a 'cross-breed' Wink) was v partial to fox poo: she would seek it out, roll in it, eat some and retrieve some back to us as a lovely gift…

Not likely to cause her any harm.

And just noticed that tabulahrasa got there first - labs are omnivores!

DextersMistress · 05/05/2015 21:04

My ddog regularly cleans the potty if I'm not quick enough. Dirty dirty boy.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 05/05/2015 21:16

When we went to see our puppy at his breeders house, one of the puppies did a poo and mummy dog hoovered it straight up. The dds were completely grossed out. Grin

MehsMum · 05/05/2015 21:20

Most dogs have repulsive personal habits but labs and lab crosses seem to be the absolute worst for eating the foulest things imaginable. If it is rotten and/or minging, you can just bet Larry the Lab will be the first dog to find it, have a taste, smack his chops, snarf down the rest, and then sick it up in the back of the car on the way home.

Or, better yet, on the carpet once he gets there.

I am sure MehDog (NOT a lab, but with plenty of gross habits) has eaten human poo. He is still with us. Don't worry, just chalk it up to experience.

Branleuse · 05/05/2015 21:21

wait for her to vomit it up, then re-eat the vomit

tabulahrasa · 05/05/2015 21:23

"wait for her to vomit it up, then re-eat the vomit"

Ah the perpetual circle of self replenishing food, yes, that one is fun too...

SewingAndCakes · 05/05/2015 21:26

Potty contents and dirty nappies are a favourite in our house. It's grim coming back home to a nappy that's been shredded over the carpet and sofa.

The dogs have eaten human poo, horse poo, dead birds. They've rolled in fox poo and dead things too.

The cat comes in our bedroom with mice or birds, then crunches them under our bed in the middle of the night.

Someone remind me why I have pets? Grin

tomatodizzymum · 05/05/2015 23:22

LMAO was going to ask if she's a lab. Nasty creatures. Mine's tried horse, cow, human, cat, his own, chicken, goat, and some splodge of god knows what's poo (I didn't want to think too much tbh). Apparently horse is a delicacy, but human is a close second especially if it's inside a nappy! Dirty dirty creature. So we're thinking of getting another lab Blush

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 05/05/2015 23:58

My old spaniel used to like very old corpses. I often found him stopped on the footpath crunching up a dried up little skeleton. Envy

MehsMum · 06/05/2015 22:21

Mine snaffles fresh rabbit crap as if it's Malteasers.
He also likes cow shit sorbet on cold winter mornings.

Oh, and dried dead things. He and his best mate came to blows over a desiccated stoat.

Boobsofsteel · 06/05/2015 22:28

My dog uses all of his intelligence and cunning to sneak into the bin and feast on nappies whenever he can. He is utterly vile but I luffs him Grin
