Anyone want to guess what breed our dog is?

We have his DNA test results due in the next week and I wondered if anyone wanted to take a guess before we get them.
He's an Irish poundie of unknown history and parentage, probably between 12-18 months of age.
We've had him about 5 weeks. He's very lively, quite bright, has a loud bark, and likes to have a good sniff around.
He's about the height of a Labrador but not as broad.
You can see his coat and size in the photo of him with our German Shepherd cross and his face and chest in the other photo.

Chihuahua?

floatyflo · 02/05/2015 12:26

Yes Pomeranian! Bless him.

ClaimedByMe · 02/05/2015 12:32

Oh floatyflo he is cute.

We DNA tested out rescue dog, we were told staffie x lab but the test came back staffie x American Staffordshire bull terrier pit bull

floatyflo · 02/05/2015 12:44

Is that one of the banned breeds? I dont really understand how it works. Did anything happen to him? Or is he okay as he is a cross?

MrsPMT · 02/05/2015 12:52

Lab x Collie x Pointer? OP

ClaimedByMe · 02/05/2015 12:52

She should be a banned breed but thus far no one has mentioned anything to us, she's been back and forth to the vets and they just class her as a staffie cross! If she did get taken from us for testing and the police don't use DNA they use a tape measure and if a dog falls within certain measurements they are classed as pit bull type and can be destroyed or we can have her tattooed and kept muzzled in public, it's a long process though.

floatyflo · 02/05/2015 13:14

They don't use DNA but measure them? Gosh. Sounds like a horribly inaccurate way of doing it. Dread to think how many dogs have been unnecessarily destroyed.

Well if your dog is anything like mine then the highest risk it poses to someone is drowning them in his drool. Such a loving slobbering mutt.

We don't know what she is btw.

FiveHoursSleep · 02/05/2015 18:35

How big is she?

OP posts:
TheHoundsBitch · 02/05/2015 18:44

Lab height, 30kg. She's 9 months, so has a little more growing to do.

FiveHoursSleep · 02/05/2015 18:55

Def Lab but maybe some mastiff?

CrumpetsRUs · 02/05/2015 19:06

Where did you get your DNA test from? We have a rescue who is possibly part Sicilian hound, part Italian greyhound but would love to know for definite! Plus another Heinz 57 who is mastiff x. :)

ClaimedByMe · 02/05/2015 19:51

We got our DNA test from Amazon, its Insights Panel

A lot of people have suggested she might have some mastiff in her actually. I think she has something houndy in her, she's very strong willed and bright but she definitely has the laziness of a mastiff or a bulldog.
She looks a lot like a catahoula leopard dog, but I can't imagine there being an 8 week old catahoula puppy ending up in a rescue in the UK - they cost a lot and are generally imported.
