Rescue dog.
Basset. 5 years.
With us for 3m now.

At around 9.30am today she gulped an entire banana skin from the gutter - whole - before I could get it out of her mouth.

10 mins ago she started dribbling and looking a bit green.

She's brought it up semidigested, as well as her last meal.
3 big puddles of it all (yak).

She's now quiet at my feet, resting.
She has wagged tail since but looks a bit down (sheepish, prob!).

This is just standard isn't it, not bloat?

(she does gulp her food and is v greedy)

ddog did this when he snaffled a whole apple and tried to gulp it down super-quick

a few minutes later he started foaming at the mouth and gagging - eventually he managed to throw up the barely digested apple plus his breakfast (and a lot of foam)

I wish I could say he'd learned his lesson (but that would be a lie Blush)

So on my limited experience I'd say it sounds like standard greedy-dog protocol ...

Hah! Thanks, Basildon whole apple sounds a bit scary re chocking.

I have googled bloat symptoms and we are not getting any of those.

Poor window cleaner was somewhat surprised - came back to ask a Qu and the dog shot out the front door and just missed his shoes.

She is just lying quiet now, no pacing foaming or arching.

She's on a diet and was obvs feeling a bit desperate re the banana skin.

Daft bugger.

watch out for foam and drool our hound had this flecked with blood when he had something stuck in his throat.vets visit needed for that.

Mylittlepotofjoy · 30/04/2015 00:04

A very tight/solid tummy like a drum skin is one of the obvious signs of bloat we have had it with our dogs a couple of times. Now the tummy is the first thing I look at

villainousbroodmare · 30/04/2015 00:19

Vomiting = normal dog tummy upset. If the dog settles thereafter, unlikely to be serious.
Repeated unproductive retching where the dog is unable to bring up anything but saliva (due to twisted oesophagus) = gastric dilation/ volvulus = v serious, major emergency. Dog will look progressively more and more distressed or weak and bloated.

Adarajames · 30/04/2015 00:20

If has thrown up then will probably be ok, with bloat they can't be sick but will seem like they keep trying. Hopefully will be all better in the morning, alth you know they won't learn from this and will do similar again don't you?! Stupid blooming mutts, why do we live them so sometimes?!

Adarajames · 30/04/2015 00:20

*love

iHAVEtogetoutofhere · 30/04/2015 09:42

Hound looked a bit sheepish yesterday but back to being a very happy hound today.

Thanks for all the tips re bloat - clearly I was just panicking but very good to have read up now and feel would be better judge 'next time' (as I am sure there will be - she is a dustbin on legs...)

Thanks
