Just to say that I run a business making coats, bandanas and beds, mainly for greyhounds. The vast majority of our customers buy their dogs presents for Christmas and I'd say a very significant proportion also buy for either their dog's birthday or their Gotcha day (or often, both!). There are also a lot of doting "grundparents" out there, as well as other relations happily buying items for dogs in the family.

De Montfort's cakes are great - we've bought them regularly for hound birthdays for friends and for our own dogs. And many of these selfsame customers are also incredibly generous at supporting rescues and a range of other charities too.

Greyhound owners in particular love any excuse for a party or a get together, and I'm still amazed at the wonderful social life our dogs have - they are invited to a constant round of sleepovers, parties, pub lunches, shows, walks, etc. (and many of these are also charity fundraisers too).

I can't have children either and I made my DD a livercake that I decorated with cream cheese, gravy bones, frozen peas and treats in the shape of a 1. She absolutely LOVED having a slice each day until it finished.
I also bought her some new toys, a new hoodie and my Dad got her squeaky doughnut toy (as she is infamous for stealing the doughnuts he buys us on Sundays Grin)

She is my first and only baby, and she is an absolute delight. She's a little character and she helped to fill a bit of the void in my life that not being able to have a baby has left me with.

I don't think you're mad at all!

For the last three years, I have helped dd to make a pupcake for our dog on her birthday, and dd picks out a new toy to give her on the day. This is really just for dd's benefit though, to underline the fact that the dog is part of our family and that we all love her and must look after her, etc. The dog likes her treats and toys, but she gets these anyway and couldn't care less what day of the year it is, obviously! I thought your OTT-ness was endearing until I read your heartless reply to Dogwood's post.

Obviously it's up to you where you donate to or not, but it's hardly biscuit-worthy for someone to respectfully suggest (since you're the one who compared your dog to a child Hmm), that you might like to help real, actual, suffering children instead of wasting money on 'luxury' items for a creature whose idea of luxury is more likely to be rolling in fresh manure than wearing a leather collar. And while it's always wise to know where donations go to and to check charity CEO salaries etc., it does actually cost money to raise money, and "I wouldn't want it to go to more ads" is just a transparent and very pathetic excuse not to bother.

I realise that the Nepal earthquake and the validity of charity donations were not the point of your thread, and if you'd just said "thanks for the suggestion, I donate to other charities" or whatever, then fair enough, back to the topic at hand. But I really think that responding to that link with a hmm face, a biscuit, and snide comment about donating to a dog shelter instead is just... ugh. Disgusting.

She did then say she would be donating to a local dog shelter.

Murphy has new toys and a visit to the dog shop for a birthday bone shaped biscuit.

He's quite spoiled anyway, I make him bandanas so he has dozens. I've also converted kids t shirts into little dog coats so he has a few of those too.
