Thanks for reply, yourBubz. She did better overnight, doing a wee outside at 11pm and 2am, and threw in a poo outside at 5am. Well, it took waiting 5-10 minutes each time, which she was not massively impressed with! Feels like I'm going against all the advice from the rescue centre about building trust by responding to her communication, when I'm standing out in the cold and she's sitting on my feet to get warm, trying to jump up my legs and whimpering, while I try my best to ignore her. We're using "busybusybusy!" as the 'magic word', so I say it as soon as I spot her doing any deeds, and have also tried saying it as encouragement.
Anyway, this morning she has weed twice outside (hurray!) but again in her crate, plus a poo on the kitchen floor again. We've spent a couple of sessions of 30-40 minutes outside, but the most recent one didn't result in anything.
She's only been here less than 24 hours, bless her, and I'm in danger of becoming obsessed with any sniffing behaviour inside, scooping her straight up and outside.
She will be 9 weeks old on Wednesday, so I'm aware she's still so young. Just checking I suppose that I'm actually doing the right things, which Bubz's response was helpful for. She just seems less impressed with the garden than Monty has been! ("Whaaat, here ??!")
MsAdorabelle, hope your sofa sleep worked for both you and Monty. Our first night went better than expected, with me on the sofa, and Lily in a dog bed next to me on the floor. She's been keen on laps since our visits, and on arrival home yesterday, but a couple of times during the day we'd successfully moved her into this dogbed, so I thought it was worth a try. She cried a little each time I resettled her after weeing, but did curl up and sleep.
Will figure out how to post a photo. She's a staffy/lab cross (tan, with small white blaze and paws).
