Noticed Monday that my nearly 5month old puppy had a slight limp on front leg but when checked it no obvious wounds no complaint when manipulated by me or my dog trainer, walker but he had been playing and digging in stream a lot on Sunday Is quite A digger stones the lot go flying if dont stop him fast
No sign of pain eating drinking and is wanting to play as normal and not lifting leg of floor or anything have rested him a lot and limited to a onlead walk round the block and banned him from playing with my mums dog
Is defintley getting better but not sure whether to make appointment with vet or give it couple more days

No real advice but my dog had a slight limp about 2 months ago ,I gave it a couple of days of no walks and then took him to the vet where he refused to limp - vet had a good feel and could find nothing and advised keeping him on a lead for a week. Well 2 months on we were in the position where as soon as we tried to increase the exercise the limp returned so last week we had him x rayed and nothing has shown up ( no arthritis thank goodness) and we are now treating as a soft tissue injury so resting for 4 weeks . If I were you I would be trying to rest it as much as possible for a week and see how he is then .

Thank you

Yes Backdoor is closed to his digust and chasing toys is banned for a few days .He looks so sorry for himself though keeps bring toys for us to throw and when we say no he just sighs and lies down

I never thought I could love a dog so much but he is my boy

I'd take him to the vet after a couple of days resting...if he's limping he's in pain and they can at least prescribe painkillers.

Also given his age, there are a few joint problems that can show up...it's more likely to be a sprain, but you'd be better getting it checked on just in case.

Thanl you have just spokern to vet wand popped in to see and examined him said felt comfortable no break or wounds as full movement and is already hardly limping now so thinks he just bruised it

Did not want to give painkillers, said not like giving unless dog in very obvious pain as otherwise it can mask it and especially at this age they then just carry on bouncing doing more damage and we both agreed no sympton of pain other than intermittent limp

so told me just to carry on with on lead short walks only and no games for a week or so

Hmm, limping is an obvious sign of pain and IME no amount of pain stops a puppy trying to bounce, lol.

But I'm not a vet, so listen to your vet not me Grin

If it doesn't go away though, do go back - one of the issues my dog has is elbow dysplasia and it showed up at 4 months, so intermittent limping that doesn't settle down after rest is something I'm paranoid about.

It is more likely to just be a bruise like the vet says though.

oh I will be camping out on vets doorstep if it occurs again or not improve he really is my boy I adore him
He manipulated his elbow around a lot as did worry me especially as he is a lab so more prone .but no issues other than a lick to the vets face while vet had hands fullGrin

Oh I didn't think you'd not keep an eye on him, I've just spent the last few years dealing with random limps and aches and pains, lol.

Is he shooting upwards?
