Veterinary nurses; dog owners ... product that absorbs accidents

Hello. Adopted a dog last week. So far has been very well behaved but want to be prepared ... .

I remember a friend of mind, a decade or so ago, using a product that looked like sand/potting compost (no idea what it actually was) that she used to put on dog pee/dog vomit/child vomit which absorbed all the nasties and then allowed you to then sweep it up in a relatively painless manner. It absorbed liquid and odours.

Anyone know what this is called, if it still exists, and if so, where to buy it from? Thank you. Thought it might be handy to have in cupboard (esp as have old parquet floor).

Going to post this is good-housekeeping too.

I clean accidents with water and a generous splash of white vinegar.
If I am out of vinegar then I use biological washing liquid and water.
Then I chuck a tin of bicarbonate of soda and vacuum in the morning

cat litter?

Thank you Buttholelane I am a strong advocate of white white vinegar for all domestic chores. I use it (diluted) to clean out rabbit cages and I know it has a disinfectant quality. Will remember it for dog accidents!

Also looking for something absorbent though so thank you Mousmous - excellent idea!
