My dog has been on Arden Grange for 5 months now but she seems to have gone off it and won't even go near her bowl when I give it to her. She's not off food though as she is more than happy to have meat/ eggs/ steal my food from my plate.

So I was just wondering whether you could recommend me something else? I know that she would love to eat raw but it looks like it costs a fortune, as everywhere I've looked requires organic everything. Also there's the whole storage/ knowing how much to give issue.

We use Millies Wolfheart for our 6 month old cocker. Coat is gorgeous and teeth are very clean. Output is minimal as is wind. He seems to be doing brilliantly on it . Customer service is A* too.

No you can't feed kibble with raw. It digests differently and can cause upset tummy. I have a mad house with 5 kids so you can imagine,if I can do raw so can you. It's easier. You can buy it already made up if you don't want the hassle or not the time. It comes in trays and can split it for how many days suits dogs size.
Better for dog
Better for your pocket
Better on amount of poo that comes out the other end.
I also freeze chicken wings and give them as and when, and give a bit of raw from whatever meat we are eating. I just worked out that it cost me less for a months supply of raw food than what it would for a weeks supply of kibble and dog meat.

Thanks angel. I will look into it. Just worried it will get to feeding time & I'll find the food is still frozen/in the freezer!! What do you do then?

Focusfocus · 17/04/2015 14:11

We tried Millie's Wolfheart and our small dog never got used to kibble size.

Switched to Evolution grain free from Pets at. Home which is practically Millie's Wolfheart but for small/mini mouth. 70% protein and 30% veg. Excellent. She devours it and is doing great on it.

Sorry Angel but there's actually no scientific proof that you mustn't feed raw and kibble together and in fact this raw food company actually suggest that it is good to mix the variety of food up a bit.

Quite honestly, what one dog loves will upset another dogs tummy, any food can make your dog ill while your mate's dog seems to thrive on it.

dillite if you're worried about mixing raw and kibble in the same meal you could always try one in the morning and the other at night. See how you get on.

Millies wolfheart here, hadn't heard of evolution before and just had a look and it does look good, but very expensive! But Good to know there's a standby available if we are ever short of millies and waiting a delivery.

Well, Millie's has been a disaster. SO has been Nature's menu- she ate that for a day and then refused to eat again. Millie's didn't get eaten even that much- she had a couple nuggets and that's it. I ordered a sample pack from 5 different mixes, none she wants. I know she's hungry. I know that she eats- she had some scrambled eggs with veg and some duck- both were eaten within seconds. Aaaarghhhh!

My last 2 dogs ate raw meat and our leftovers (to give them the veg and variety). They both thrived and it was cheap - often got lamb neck from the local butcher's. Didn't bother with organic meat - couldn't afford it. Our bitch went on to have a puppy (also raised on leftovers and raw meat) who won Westminster the US equivalent of Crufts. That is how good that diet was.

My new dog loathes raw meat! Which stymied us a bit but we discovered she will eat it if cooked. So she is now on a diet of leftovers and cooked fish/meat (mainly fish as she prefers that - sometimes brown rice). She is only 8 months old but already looks to be a well-made little dog and only one or two tiny poos a day. She has no wastage on food. We have tried to give her bones but she won't touch them. My last two loved them, though.

When my late lamented staffy was swapped to a raw food diet, his poos were tiny, like a squirrel's! He was a well muscled dog, with ultra clean, white teeth to the day he died and a shiny, shiny coat. People would always comment how healthy he looked. Shows how much rubbish is in commercial food, even the dear ones if the dog is producing lots of poo. I couldn't believe the difference when we switched to a BARF diet.

I buy massive packs of frozen chicken, fish, lamb and beef mince from 'Iceland'. And just feed her as much as she'll eat. Dogs were always fed like this - meat and leftovers - until commercial food came along. I don't feed any supplements, but wouldn't hesitate to if I felt the dog needed it. By leftovers I don't mean puddings or obviously unhealthy stuff.

I think I will need to go raw. First I need to buy a new fridge/ freezer though as what I currently have just isn't big enough. Why does she need to be so fucking fussy?

I've tried quite a few foods over time incl, MWH and although she liked it she was drinking masses more, she was shedding and she was yo-yoing weight. She has been on Orijen but most recently she's been on a new food Akela and it's absolutely fantastic. Everyone who's known her before and sees her now can't believe how good she looks. Really not expencsive, amazing quality and she loves it. Output is also the best it's been (bar raw).
