Bit by a dog today :(

Few of you know I got a new dog the other day, adopted him.

Gorgeous dog, amazing temperament and is very good off a lead with excellent recall. However I'm always wary of other dogs especially as I don't know what they're like or how my new dog will react so I kept him on his harness whilst out and about.

Took him to the park today, other dog (Alsatian) came sniffing over with his owner. However he was off lead. I was wary, owner seemed calm and laughed so we had a quick chat. I went to walk away with my dog when the other dog just went for him. Had my dog pinned down on the floor. The dog slipped his collar so the owner was trying to drag him by his back legs. People came running over to help. I' was trying to get my dog up but he was on his back so I did a Very Stupid Thing and jumped in front of him and scooped him up in my arms. This diffused the situation, the dog stopped and the lovely people managed to get him away and the owner put his collar back on. Then ran off! The nice people sat me down on a bench and told me my arm was bleeding. My jumper was all ripped but I was more concerned about my dog. The people said the dog had bit my arm when i got my dog out.

Had to get a tetanus and now I'm sat here bruised, it's really hurting :( But my dog hasn't got a mark on him which I'm so glad about. I can't believe the owner ran off though. I don't really blame the dog for biting me because I put myself in that situation, I'm just angry he wasn't restrained and they didn't have the decency to see if I was okay.

I'm worried about going to that park now. I've walked my dogs for years but now I feel terrible.

Report it to the police and the dog warden.
It's bitten a person so it will be taken seriously, it's out of control in a public place and if no action is taken it will quite possibly attack or kill more dogs and redirect to their owners if they intervene.

I've had a look into it but don't really have much to say, there's no cameras, no-one knows the woman and we don't know her name. I'll let them know anyway of course, but I don't think there's much they'll be able to do.

I'm just so angry it could have done real damage to my poor dog who's only just getting used to having a nice life, or could have attacked someone smaller than myself.

Do you know for sure no one knows her?

Some dogs behaved very nastily with my dog, they didn't bite her but the first and second time they chased her very viciously trying to slam her.
She screamed and cried and shook and tried to hide.
The third time they had a friend who did try and bite her but was muzzled.
I was beyond livid and their owner really didn't give a shit.

Quite a few months later I was talking to another owner and it turned out the dogs were in fact well known to other walkers and had bitten the owner I was talking to!
So you never know.

I really, really wish I had reported it and she said the same but we both thought at the time that no one really knew this person (I don't see it often), didn't know the name etc.

None of the local dog owners know her but maybe she's known the the wardens or whoever so I will report. I'm just glad I didn't take my mums dog out too. He's massive and it would have been a blood bath as there's no way I could have done anything.

Just a bit shook up to be honest really and needed to talk.

I'd definitely report it to local dog warden and police as I would feel terrible if I didn't do something and it happened again and another dog, owner or child got hurt by this dog while out walking in the park.
The dog was out of control and the owner is being irresponsible not taking any preventative measures to stop this happen like a muzzle and proper harness to control the dog.
It is an offence to have a dog out of control in a public place so also phone the police and tell them you were afraid for your safety as well as your dog's they will take it seriously and even if they can't find the owner it's on file so that God forbid it happens again it can be used as evidence.
You never know someone at the park might know them.

my poor staffie had a Jack Russel attack her yesterday :( she didn't do anything, curiously tried to approach, great body language, wagging tail and this dog just exploded. It was on a lead but the elderly owner had no chance of keeping it under control. My girl was terrified and darted away from it back to by my legs and we managed to get away.

The Jack Russel was flinging itself off the ground trying to get to her as we walked away. that dog is going to pull it's owner over and its only a matter of time before the owner can't hold on to it and it does some serious damage. It wasn't messing around, it was trying to go for her throat.

There are so many out of control dogs out there. The elderly owner didn't even appologise or tell the dog off, he just ignored the behaviour.

Hope you are ok op and not too sore :(

Worth investing in a head cam that cyclist wear.
Anything that happens is recorded.
There is a woman near me who owns 4 huge dogs (1 boxer and 3 French mastiffs)
They have attacked 5 other dogs on my and neighbouring street that I heard of.
There are also other incidents.
These dogs are huge that if they decide to attack some dog, there is no way of pulling them back unless they decide they had enough.
After all these incidents, she still doesn’t put them on lead and muzzle them.
Mine were attacked twice last year by them and I had reported it to the police.
But since she only ever walks a couple of them at a time, and I couldn’t identify which one it was and she denied all allegations of the attack, the police decide not to go ahead with the control order via the court as it was likely to be unsuccessful.

The path to the park is long and narrow, and her stupid partner lets them off the lead before entering.
Hate it when ppl are so blind and don’t care when it comes to their dogs!
