Dog training advice please - cant see the wood for the trees on these issues !

Normally I'm quite logical, but I just can't get my head around how to retrain these behaviours.

Firstly, I want to now change dpup's toiletting habits so she only uses a certain part of the garden, rather than pooing anywhere as she currently does.
The best method would be to take her out on her lead to the required place and praise for any wee/poo that happens there. Other than that, try and not give her unsupervised garden access for a while until she has understood the new concept.
Simple yes? Anything else that would help?

that was about the dog dominating a person not a person dominating a dog! you are splitting hairs!

I'm talking about basic manners. my dog is impeccably behaved, and is great in a shop, in a field, in a restaurant, his recall is perfect. he was well trained and I adore him.

I actually know nobody else who can take their dog in a shop or restaurant and be perfectly behaved. I don't dominate him, we have a mutual respect.

now if we could get back to the op, and helping her? Grin

Meridian do salt and sugar free peanut butter- just blitzed nuts. Dpup loves it. I tend to go a bit mad and mix it with natural yogurt and coconut oil with some kibble, carrots or treats. then I freeze it. Takes him a good while to work through it :)

But gymbob it's perfectly possible to have an impeccably behaved dog and not do all that stupid stuff about pretending to eat a bit of dog biscuit before giving your dog a treat

Fwiw my dog passed his assessment to be a therapy dog just after his first birthday which certainly wouldn't have happened if he'd been anything less than beautifully behaved but it's got nothing to do with me being a pack leader ...

Anyway ...doodle - as long as your pup is happy to poo/wee on lead then yes, restricting access will help - have you got it on cue? And generally, making your dog's bed an attractive place to be will increase its value for them. Make sure you teach a release cue too otherwise they'll start deciding when they've had enough and start wandering off

what are you talking about. who is it that pretends to eat a bit of dog biscuit before giving their dog a treat?! and I'm not a pack leader, I'm a dog owner ffs.

I always feed my dog in the evening before the family eat - we often eat late. I can't imagine how horrible it is for the dog being really hungry while the family eats - I just think it's so unnecessary.
My kids are encouraged to pull their chairs in tight to the table, no one is allowed to give the dog eye contact while sitting at the table....sometimes Dpup was too much, too curious and we'd crate him so we could have dinner in peace but we kept at it and now after having a brief sniff at the food, he goes into his grate by himself. He's 10 months now and he's not stupid he figures stuff out - no reward for him - he'll slope off for a nap.

No idea about the poo thing, He started off only doing it in one area but gradually that became the whole garden!

Bed training going well. I'm not making a big deal of it, but just consistently putting her onto her beanbag with her new kong when ever a plate comes out, sitting at the table or on the sofa.

Hadn't thought about a release que, but that makes a lot of sense.

Would anyone like to share their release ques with me. Open hands gesture and the word 'finished' ?

Loving the ideas for kongs. Bought a red medium kong and it is working well. Also bought a cheapo brand one - pieces being ripped off within 1day - lesson learned!

My release cue is, ok...go, and a sort of random shooing gesture.

It's the same one for stay, wait, heel...it basically means you're off the clock now, do what you want.
