help me diagnose my dog?

So I'm wondering if I need to go to the vet tomorrow. Noticed happydog seemed to have a bit of a scrape over her eye Friday, only it didn't look like a fresh wound. Over the past few days it seems to be getting bigger. It looks like a small patch of very dry, scabby skin with some hair loss. She isn't scratching it or seemingly bothered by it but I want to catch it before it gets bigger, currently about the size of 3 dried grains of rice. New to dog "ownership" here, what could be afflicting my darling?

could it me ringworm? which isn't actually a worm......

Probably ringworm, same stuff as athletes foot.
You want to get some cream for that as you could get it also if not treated (assuming it is is ringworm)

Please go to the vet. Hopefully it is ringworm but there's something very dangerous called Alabama Rot that sometimes starts as a lesion or wound on the face. Sorry, I don't want to worry you but best to get it checked out.

Alabama rot starts from the elbow down doesn't it?

BrambleandCuthbert · 01/04/2015 10:42

Can be on the face too, at least according to the notice in our vets. I'm near the New Forest and there's been a lot of it around here recently unfortunately.

Thanks all, couldn't post earlier as busy day but did go to vet. She wasn't sure what it was so didn't want to go in with strong meds bit have a cream to use 2x daily and to come back if it worsens. Her guess was that happydog got a scratch from something, that this was so minor we didn't see it, and that some bacteria set up home in the wound. I'm not googling alabama rot as it sounds frightening and in going this cream will work.

Good - well, if the vet didn't mention it as a possibility then there's no reason to google Smile

I hope the cream works quickly and happydog is soon back to normal.
