Old Dogs and Babies

So I'm pregnant with our first baby and very excited.
We have two dear dogs. One is an old lady now so she's getting a little bit messy in the house more frequently... We live in rented accommodation and its carpeted.
Now that our first is on the way, I'm a bit concerned about cleanliness in the carpet, crawling baby and dog poop/vomit... We could get laminate floor put down but would need to re-carpet it when we leave...
Any thoughts?
Our downstairs is pretty much all one room - front room is a lovely square which leads into a square dining room and garden. The kitchen is the only seperate room on the ground floor and the dogs don't go in there because they don't like the lino floor!

I've had a similar problem, DD was about 18months and into everything. One of my old dogs started getting incontinent so I started to psych myself up for having her PTS.
However I remember the same thing happening to our old family dog and Mum taking her on her 'final trup' to the vet...only to bring her home with a completely new diet: chicken, tuna, occasional beef mince with a bit of grain (rice, barley, quinoa), some veggies and crushed eggshells for calcium. Our family dog lasted another 2 years and the incontinence disappeared.
I adopted this diet for my old girl 6 months ago and the same has happened. No more accidents and a much happier dog. It takes a bit of effort to cook the food but so, so worth it and, weirdly, much cheaper! I buy catering packs of chicken breast, value rice and save the eggshells. The difference is amazing.

Oh blimey! Well she's on a low fat hypoallergenic dry biscuit that she has to have three times a day because of her pancreatitis... It's made a difference - she's not suffering with her pancreatitis anymore but she doesn't really enjoy her walks. She's sick in the same corner every now and then too... Pulls this awful face and you can't drag her outside lol...
I'm a bit dubious about changing her diet again... But it could be worth considering down the line :)

Oh sorry I didn't realise she had a pre existing condition. In that case I would take her to the vet and ask their advice. Fingers crossed they can come up with something Flowers

That's ok - I didn't divulge that in OP :)
Yeh it's a tough one. She also has maxed out the insurance from her cruciate ligament surgery last summer :( if other leg goes then we have no choice but to PTS. Same with the pancreatitis... She's one expensive old lady big dog :(

Poor old girl. My other old dog did his cruciates on Christmas Day 2012. An expensive injury.
I really hope your vet can suggest something Flowers

Lay the laminate over the carpet?
I'm sure my in laws did that and it looked fine underneath

Lilwelshyrs · 31/03/2015 22:28

Yes, that could be a good option. Although we do need to replace some of the carpet where the dogs chewed it up around bonfire night! Oops!

If your dogs don't like the Lino, they might not like the laminate.

Our dog hates it in our new house and will avoid walking on it if he can.
