I am hoping to get a puppy in the summer and am on various waiting lists.
I've asked about the various health tests done on the breeding pairs and am aware that it is recommended to test the hips and eyes. One breeder has only submitted hip test results for the bitch, although the male dog has all (excellent) test results. The COI for this pair is also nice and low.
Would I be taking a big risk with this puppy? I know the eye problems are mainly with the smaller poodles. The breeder seems reputable (although cannot be 100%) and is only a small-time breeder.
Some advice from knowledgeable owners would be much appreciated.

Is the DNA test? As then only one parent needs to be clear.

If it's just the one where they look at their eyes annually...they should both be done.

It is the annual eye-test. I know they should have the eye-test done annually but how big a risk am I taking if the breeder hasn't had the bitch tested?

Walk away.

If they are cutting corners on that, what else are they cutting corners on? The annual eye test is around 50ish, so in the grand scheme of things, insignificant.

Negril if it is the annual check then the risk you are taking is that a puppy will go blind. Really in this day and age they should be having the blood test as it is inexpensive and results guarantee unaffected puppies.

Many thanks. I knew this really but needed convincing I think. I'll discuss it with the breeder tomorrow and then make my decision.

Walk away. The eye test is cheap and easy to have done. If she hasn't bothered and has bred anyway, I for sure wouldn't buy one.

She clearly hasn't done the very best she can to ensure she makes strong, healthy puppies.
