Blood in poo

My DD's dog occasionally passes small amounts of fresh blood in her poo, last te it happened we had a hefty vets bill for care and food that we could have sorted ourselves. She's a lab so most probably will have been foraging on her walks but just wondered if anybody had any ideas how we can treat her at home instead if rushing her straight off to the vets (obviously we will take her if she needs it) - she's raw fed if that has any bearing on it.

I wouldn't take a dog to the vet immediately just because of bright red blood streaks in poo. Does it have mucous in it too? If it does, it points to inflamation of the colon which isn't a disaster, and a few days of a probiotic and some very bland, easy to digest food (eg cooked chicken and rice, fish and rice etc) in small, frequent portions will probably see it off.

If it persisted for more than 3 or so days, or if was more than a few streaks, or if the dog is obviously off colour, then I would make a vets appointment.

As she's raw fed, I would however be very aware that if bone is included in her diet, it might be damaging her internally. I am not a fan of raw food diets though.

Thank you for the advice, she did have trachea and ribs the other night so she's put her on chicken/fish and rice. Looks like she might be prone to it as she had it a couple if times before she went on raw.
