long story...
When i was 10 years old we rehomed a puppy called Ben. Ben was fine up until his 3rd birthday when he started developing sores on his body and his fur fell out in clumps , he was in agonising pain alot of the time and my mother was beside herself trying to get vets and RSPCA to help him he had an immune disorder and several allergies to almost all dog foods. the vets just used to prescribe him tea tree oil sprays and dermo scrub shampoos but never did blood tests despite my mother's objecting to this saying she knew he had some sort of allergy or immune problem we went on like this for 2yrs with our pleas for help falling on deaf ears all the while poor Ben was slowly getting worse no amount of baths or cuddles (he loved cuddles) could get him back to his bouncy self and he looked so bad you'd have thought he was being badly mistreated when in fact he couldn't have been more loved if we tried. So the RSPCA got involved as they had done before when we were trying to get him referred to specialists and said there was nothing more we could do for Ben and they had to take him there and then to be PTS at this point he really was in agony and miserable so we let them take him admitting defeat. ive thought about him for the past 6 yrs constantly but last night i Googled his breed Labrador X Dalmatian and his adoption advert popped up for aug 2011 3 months after he was taken to be PTS it sent shivers down my spine seeing him once more after all these years and realising for some reason only known to the RSPCA they took our dog and finally got him the help he needed while lying to us and saying he was dead Sad so know i am sat here wondering what Ben is like today i have so many questions my 15yr old self didn't get answered when he was taken and I'd love to know he is ok and got his happy ending thanks for reading this far i will now post a link to the ad i found in hope someone has information on his whereabouts please inbox me if you know anything about him thank youThanks

Am I reading this right? The dog was taken by the rspca and rehomed when you had actually taken him to be pts?

myusernameisusername · 23/03/2015 15:46

They took him from us to be PTS and led us to believe there was nothing they could do to help him we had no say in the matter we i didn't as i was too young at the time but my mother was told she had to sign him over or face court action to seize him from us Sad all this time she was still protesting that they and the vets didn't help him in the first place and fobbed her off with shampoos and sprays when he actually needed urgent medical attention. i might add we were a poor family at the time so no option of getting him private care we had to put our trust in the PDSA and RSPCA they failed him and our family and then lied and took him it sounds like a horror story i know im still in disbelief that he is actually still alive and well and they finally got him help only after they tore him away from his family and companion dog

Arkkorox · 23/03/2015 15:49

If he was signed over I doubt very much you would be able to get info about where he was adopted out too. It's totaly wrong that they gave you the impression he would be pts though Sad

Salt

InfinitySeven · 23/03/2015 15:54

There is a lot of legal forces at play here.

So you couldn't afford treatment, and tried to get help through the PDSA and RSPCA. Either they didn't help at all, or they didn't help as much as you feel like they should have done.

Did they then advise you to sign them over to him? Or did you take him to be PTS, and then they told you to sign them over to him, or they would get a legal order seizing him?

That's legal - if it wasn't life threatening, an animal can be seized and rehomed rather than PTS.

If the RSPCA thought that you were neglecting him, even if it was because you were too poor to do anything else and you were doing your best, they can also apply to seize him. This can be more hit-and-miss, but it seems that your mum signed rather than it going to court, so it didn't actually get tested.

myusernameisusername · 23/03/2015 15:57

Im not wanting him back or anything legal im just hoping his new owners are on here and would be willing to inbox me and talk or if you have a friend who has this dog ? i need to know he is okay and id like to tell his owners all about his previous life

OP posts:
myusernameisusername · 23/03/2015 15:58

they said she had to sign him over or face court she was ill at the time and wasn't strong enough to fight for him anymore and we were all to young to get them to listen Sad

OP posts:
myusernameisusername · 23/03/2015 15:59

ww didn't take him to be PTS no they said that is what they were going to do and that is what was best

Try posting on PetForums, there's a huge amount of dog owners and people that work in rescue there , they would be able to help you better than here I would think

myusernameisusername · 23/03/2015 16:00

i will try there aswell thank you

I am a massive dog lover and support some charities but I will never, ever support the RSPCA

Arkkorox · 23/03/2015 16:05

Second that Ali

However I'm not really sure they did anything wrong here

InfinitySeven · 23/03/2015 16:05

The top of that article says he was taken by the inspectors (ie seized) after he was found with a skin condition that hadn't been treated for many months.

It doesn't really matter, anyway, I just thought it might help to understand the legalities of the situation.

It also might affect what his new owners think of his past owners, if you get in touch. They will have been told the same story, and that might stop them from wanting to come forward.

I tried reverse-searching that image for you, but it didn't come up anywhere else.

I do hope you can find him.

myusernameisusername · 23/03/2015 16:08

They wrote that totally wrong he had it for years and it was somewhat treated ive heard so many bad things about the RSPCA

OP posts:
myusernameisusername · 23/03/2015 16:09

i know i want his new owners to know he wasn't some badly treated dog he was so loved and failed by the vets and RSPCA i want them to know what his life was like

OP posts:
LoofahVanDross · 23/03/2015 16:12

Poor you. Anything to do with the RSPCA doesn't surprise me. Maybe you could put something on facebook and get that shared.

Aliiiii · 23/03/2015 16:19

It's a tough one and as infinity said the way the advert is worded seems to point at severe lack of care by previous owners
I must say that it sums up the RSPCA in my opinion, far too willing to put animals to sleep ( although they didn't in this case!)
I hope you find him, but if you do the new owners may not want contact if they were told he was a cruelty case

myusernameisusername · 23/03/2015 16:54

It did anger me the way they have worded it and i think they do put animals across as cruelty cases to get more adopted i just hope i can find out what happened to him it would help give me closure on losing him just like that one thing that ad got right is his personality and temperament he is a wonderful dog as soft as butter and daft as a brush

OP posts:
sanfairyanne · 23/03/2015 17:44

perhaps there is a slight difference between what you were told by your mum and what happened?
good luck with your search anyway Thanks

myusernameisusername · 23/03/2015 17:59

I wasn't told anything i witnessed it all i was at every meeting vets appointment and read every letter even at 12 yrs old i knew what was happening and what care he needed

OP posts:
myusernameisusername · 23/03/2015 18:10

Aliiiii · 23/03/2015 19:47

Good luck with your search
Reading the ad it does say that the dog would only be rehomed to certain local areas, do you still live around the same area?

Floralnomad · 23/03/2015 20:02

I don't think you should be trying to contact his new owners ,I'm not a fan of the RSPCA but your story just doesn't ring true and I think your mum has probably shielded you from the true facts of the case .

myusernameisusername · 23/03/2015 20:06

yes i live around the same area and no my mother didn't "shield" me from anything the RSPCA Lied to us about our dog and took him undrr false pretences if she had said she was finally going to get him treatment we wouldn't have signed him over she made out he was a going to die any day by himself and we would be best to let him go Sad i have no idea what her motive was or what goes through the minds of officers that do this i know there are some good rspca officers out there
