Bit panicked, there's a small lump by dog's ribs!

I noticed it today when rubbing his belly. It's bigger than a pea, movable and does not appear to be causing any pain or discomfort. That said, it's quite hard to tell when there is something wrong with him.

He was recently checked over by the vet for another issue and they felt his stomach but didn't notice anything untoward.

I've googled myself silly. Sad

It needs checked out, obviously, but there all manner of completely harmless things that appear as lumps...so don't panic, honestly.

dont panic my dogs has had 2 lumps removed that have just been cysts
get a vet appointment booked tomorrow

MehsMum · 20/03/2015 21:18

My elderly terrier has a five-year old fatty lump on her side, and a nodule on one of her ribs that she's had for two or three years.

She is still with us, very happily so. See the vet for peace of mine, but 10 to one your dog will be fine.

EilaLila · 20/03/2015 21:20

Thanks. Can it wait until Monday or does he urgently need to be seen tomorrow?

I was worried when I found a similar lump on my lab (10 yrs old) recently. It turned out just to be a fatty lump - pea sized, moveable, no issues.

How old is your dog? These benign lumps are relatively common in older dogs.

MehsMum is right - it will be fine.

lavendersun · 20/03/2015 21:21

p.s. I wouldn't rush to the vets tomorrow unless a weekend appt is more convenient for you.

EilaLila · 20/03/2015 21:24

He's only 6, a bit tubby around the belly although slowly shifting the pounds.

Fatty lumps are common in that area, our dog has one about the size of a golfball and the vets are not wanting to remove it unless it starts obstructing her movements, I dont think he needs rushing to the vets tomorrow.

Unless it's handy to go tomorrow, or you'll spend all weekend worrying, it can totally wait till Monday IMO.
