Dh and I took her to the vet today, just for a check up. She's about 17 and has lived with us for over 15 years. The vet was pleased with her, but sadly she won't be with us for much longer. She's lost a lot of weight and is becoming gradually demented. We're keeping an eye on her and she's been given cartrophen to help with arthritic pain as the NSAIDs don't do much for her.

That's sad to hear Flowers

But 17! Goodness me! You've obviously given her an excellent life, so well done for that.

Sorry to hear that, tiger. 17 though, what a great age to reach.
Our old girl suffered the same towards the end. Enjoy her company while you can. You have clearly looked after her well, for her to live so long.

Sending you and dd hugs and Flowers

Oh I'm so sorry to hear that. What a shame. Still, yes, 17 is pretty impressive!

Have you just got the new pup, I can't remember how many dogs you said you had?

Greydog · 17/03/2015 14:43

sorry to read that

Thank you for all your kind comments. She is our eldest and our youngest is a pup of 3 months. At the moment we have 4 dogs in the household, and yes, it is because of the grief and loss of a beloved family member that we have so many. I'm not sure it really helps much, and I worry about digging up remains in the garden. We have only just planted a dogwood over ddog who died in Dec 2013, and I only knew where he was buried because the earth had sunk and there was a dip. The dogs cannot replace each other and they are so different and our reactions to the death of a family pet are so different. We had a very solemn funeral for a duckling. Other fowl losses have been less glamorous.

Ddog is a wonderful stable dog and a joy to be around. I think her demise will be a great loss, but I think also that she still enjoys life and has so far enjoyed it without fear.

Aww Tiger. That's something to be grateful for. Flowers

Sorry you've had a family bereavement. Flowers
17 years is a lovely long life.
It's hard watching them age. Ddog is 15 and back legs are going. We still go for short walks as he asks for them and is very happy pootling round the garden. Every meal is still worth circling & tail wagging in anticipation. No dementia but hearing poor. Visitors all still get a warm greeting so we trust life is still good but for how long...
