We have a foster dog at the moment, a tall lurcher who is adorable Smile When he cocks his leg and does a wee it lands on the back of his front feet! Nothing I can do really is there Blush

How old is he?

All my whippets have done this while they're young but as they've got older they've generally got better at aiming to miss them. My youngest is just over a year and he's still regularly peeing on himself though.

I recommend wet wipes by the door!

shelldockley · 14/03/2015 22:12

We think he is around 3, he doesn't seem to mind it!

Sorry, it's not an age thing. My greyhound is 8 and I regularly have to clean his front feet and so do other owners of male greyhounds that I know. He's black with white feet so luckily I can see he's peed on them before I let him back inside so he doesn't traipse it through the house.

Normal baby wipes or special doggy wipes?

I just use baby wipes, the Huggies pure ones, they're in a beigey packet. They're the strongest baby wipes I've come across (and trust me, you don't want weak ones where your finger rips through at the slightest bit of pressure Shock ). They're expensive from supermarkets unless they're on a good offer but if you go somewhere like B&M or Home Bargains they usually have them at £1 a packet.

PacificDogwood · 15/03/2015 09:33

Oh, our FDog does this too!
He also wees like a girl so manages to get either or both front feet Hmm
Baby wipes it is then.

Archer26 · 15/03/2015 09:43

Our greyhound used to do the same. Clearly the lurcher/greyhound breed didn't evolve with wee dynamics in mind. Baby wipes are your friends.

Lovely dogs though. Smile

shelldockley · 15/03/2015 10:50

Ah he really is lovely Smile He's having his first bath today so from then on baby wipes at the door!

One other thing about the bath, we've only had him 3 days and he hasn't even attempted the stairs which I think is a good trait, however we have to get him up to have a bath. Do you think once we let him up once he will then think he has free reign?

Disclaimer

We've our fostered greyhound for 3 weeks now - he goes upstairs easily but is really scared of going down. We have a stair gate at the stairs because we want to keep upstairs dog-free.
I have carried him down (all 34 kg of him!) on a few occasions, we've 'encouraged' him down with treats and pulling him on his collar and he did it this morning with minimal encouragement.

I was told not to bath him and as he is going to his forever home next week, I won't. I just don't feel I am 'entitled' to. But if he was mine, I would - he smells a bit 'doggy' and is still quite dandruffy.

How short-long-haired is your lurcher?

shelldockley · 15/03/2015 11:01

His hair is fairly long and soft, moulting lots, his legs are all urine stained so he defo needs a wash, I think he will be ok with it as he likes being brushed...just the stairs situation Grin

PacificDogwood · 15/03/2015 11:03

Oh, enjoy!
Just stand well back when he shakes himself afterwards Grin

I'm sure he'll manage upstairs just fine, downstairs you'll have to see.
And whether he then feels 'entitled' to go upstairs - who knows?
It took ours about a week before he became confident enough to even try it on.

TheCunnyFunt · 15/03/2015 11:29

Handy hint, put your swimming cossie on to do it :o then it won't matter how wet you get Wink

Pacific you must be quite sad as you'd really fallen for him hadn't you?

PacificDogwood · 15/03/2015 11:45

Yes Sad

But have already looked at other greys - sadly, there's SO many of them.

shelldockley · 15/03/2015 11:53

Oh bless, I can only imagine how attached I'll be feeling after 3 weeks, I love him already!
I don't mind getting wet as all my clothes stink of dirty dog so they'll be going straight in the wash and we'll all start afresh once he's bathed Grin
