and would appreciate some advice please.

Noticed DDog's vulva is all of a sudden big and her tummy looks a bit swollen tonight. So, have been reading past threads and wondered about taking her out for walks.

We live in a very popular dog walking area (close to woods and fields). Is it best to not take her for walks? I'm not sure if it is a good or bad idea? She has the run of the garden but the idea of keeping in for weeks?

If that is the way it is, so be it. Any advice really appreciated. Thanks.

Swollen tummy??

I have an entire bitch and her bitchy bits swell quite a lot, her nipples swell a bit too but not her tummy?

And no do not walk her.
I keep mine in for the full four weeks.

My pup starter her first season today too. She was fine last night (I know as I washed/ brushed her) and then today, KABOOM, the full works. There's a lot more blood than I expected there to be. She appears to be quite uncomfortable, is that normal? Do you think getting one of those doggie britches is a good idea?

Apologies for hijacking your post, just thought we could share it as it's on the same topic.

No, don't walk her anywhere you'll see other dogs, especially from about day 7 - day 21.

Her tummy really shouldn't be swollen, are you sure it is?

Buttholelane · 11/03/2015 12:18

I think they can sometimes be a bit uncomfortable yes and if it's a lot of blood I would invest in heat pants/britches.
Mine only spots a bit so I don't bother.

OP, are you sure that your bitch didn't have a silent season; rare but possible or a first season so mild you didn't really notice which is quite common and she is either a. Pregnant or b. Having a phantom/false pregnancy ?

I would visit a vet tbh.

Thanks for the replies.

No, tummy not swollen today but her nipples are more prominent. I have very vague memories of my childhood dog wearing knickers... I thought it was an odd memory but now! Makes more sense :).
