Any vets around? Dog acting strangely (worried)

Took Ddog for a walk as usual this morning to a NT property we visit a couple of times a week. He went for a swim in the river and all seemed normal although he did manage to hoover up half a loaf of bread he found in the bushes before I could stop him. Normally when we get home he rubs himself against the furniture to dry off properly as apparently I don't do a good enough job with the towel and then he'll have a sleep. However since we got in he's been quite agitated and over-excited, he's not slept, he's been rubbing against the furniture and against the rug and he's been licking all of his paws. I've rinsed him down in the shower in case he's come into contact with some kind of skin irritant but I'm quite worried as this behaviour is very out of character. Obviously if he gets distressed I'll take him straight to the emergency vet but in the meantime should I be worried and is there anything else I should do?

I'm not a vet but I'd be tempted to phone the local or emergency vet for advice. Good luck.

Rubbing and licking at paws often happens when they have come into contact with nettles.

ah thanks - that could well be it ..

rinsing his feet off seems to have helped soothe him a bit

is it ok to give him piriton? or should I just leave it

Don't give human drugs without veterinary advice, please don't!

He's calmed down now and is waiting hopefully for his bedtime biscuit. I will ask the vet on Monday what I should do if it happens again

He behaved in a very similar way the last time we used advocate too so he seems to be a bit 'sensitive' ..,

Advocate had this effect on our lab. He acts very strangely so I think it irritated him.
