Hand stripping

Just wondering if it's possible to hand strip a heavily clipped wire hair that has gone wooly and restore it back to wire?

If so, how?

No groomers about?

Is he a castrated male? Can't their coats go woolly for hormonal reasons (so probably unable to rectify)

When we got our wirehair she hadn't been stripped in years, just clipped. She was very fluffy. I just got stuck in and her coat looks lovely now. Not sure if I would have described it as woolly though, more of a fluffy mess!

No she is a spayed female.

It's not my dog, she is my mum in laws but where she has been clipped frequently it just looks (in my opinion) awful. Wooly, thick, just ugh.

The dog chews itself a fair bit and has skin cream so j assume some sort of irritation.

If at all possible to reverse, I would like to suggest hand stripping her to my mil.

I'm not a groomer but do have a wire haired dog who I hand strip myself. I'm sure I read somewhere that it's possible to rescue a coat which has been clipped. I'd have thought you just need to wait some time for the coat to grow and then start stripping it when it's ready.

Found it,

Will hand stripping restore a coat's wire texture if my dog has been clipped?
Yes, but sometimes it can be difficult if a dog’s coat has been clipped many times. You often have to let them grow out several months and strip them several times to get the wire coat growing properly again. Sometimes after only one clipping it comes back fine but do not count on it. The longer amount of time the coat has been clipped, the more months it will take with diligent stripping to get the coat back to it’s original correct texture. But it can be done in most cases!
