Raw marrow bone?

Hi there, just wondered if a raw marrow bone was safe to give my dog? I have read here that cooked bones are a definite no no but wondered if these would be ok?

I would say no.
They are dense weight bearing bones from a cow so unless your dog is a Great Dane if he tries to crunch it (and many dogs do!) he risks breaking teeth which is very painful and very expensive to fix.

The marrow also is very rich and fatty, it can cause upset stomachs and explosive diarrhoea or if your really unlucky, pancreatis which again is painful and costly to fix.

Hi. All I can say. Please don't. My parents gave my dog one whilst we were away. We came home. That night he was vomiting and diarrhoea for a few days. It cost me over £500 at the vets. For a 65p bone. Not good. X

Thank you for the quick reply! I will give those a miss then. Could you suggest a good bone for a large Labrador cross dog please?

Chicken half portion or chicken quarter, lamb breast, pork ribs.

All raw and never cooked.

When feeding raw the rule of thumb is never to feed a weight bearing bone.

I do however give them to my dogs, just take them away as soon as they have had all the good bits off the outside. The chunky bits of cartilage and residual meat is a real treat for them :)
