OP posts:
Arkkorox · 26/02/2015 11:51

He's a twat

Lilcamper · 26/02/2015 12:03

He is a dog abuser that needs to be kept away from tv.

SukieTuesday · 26/02/2015 12:05

Appalling man.

gaggiagirl · 26/02/2015 12:15

What did he do? Its been a while since I've seen the show.

HoraceCope · 26/02/2015 12:17

i seem to recall his methods are controversial

OP posts:
D0oinMeCleanin · 26/02/2015 12:26

Not controversial as much as downright abusive, incorrect, outdated and scientifically proven to be wrong, a fact which he refuses to address at all, not even to defend his methods (most likely because he can't defend his methods against all the evidence building up against them)

He bases all of his "training" on pack theory, something which was based on flawed study of wolf behaviour and has long since been discredited, even the man behind the study no longer believes that his work holds any water.

An average dog owner following his methods is in serous danger of being attacked by their dog.

gaggiagirl · 26/02/2015 12:30

Really? Sounds quite serious then. He shouldn't be on tv.

HoraceCope · 26/02/2015 12:35

exactly gaggia,

Youtube ' honey the lab bites Caesar' and ' ceasar Milan kicking dogs'

He pushed honey to the point where she had to defend herself against him and he got bitten. Before filming honey had no agression issues, they wound her up to the point she was so upset she bit. She's doing great now!

HoraceCope · 26/02/2015 12:46

the one i saw recently he was bitten but why was honey being seen by him?

OP posts:
Arkkorox · 26/02/2015 12:48

I think it was because they were expecting a child and were worried about it

D0oinMeCleanin · 26/02/2015 12:54

Holly 'asked' CM to leave her be several times and only resorted to biting after all else failed. He also strikes her more than once.

I still struggle to understand the common sense behind training a dog with resource guarding issues this way. How does the thinking work? To me it's "hmm, my dog is worried I'll take her food/bed/whatever, I know how to show her to not be scared of this. I'll actually take it and hit her whilst taking it, that'll learn her not be scared of me" Hmm It makes no sense to me at all Confused

punter · 26/02/2015 14:02

I came across the programme by mistake (come dine with me had ended!) and I do agree he is cruel and his pack theory discredited. But I did see him calm down a blind lab who went bonkers when eating his food, because the owner just gave him the dish and let him get on with it. I agree with his statement that remaining calm is a good thing when dealing with difficult behaviour. But I guess that is hardly news to anyone who has had a dog. Don't bother flaming me, just saying.

gaggiagirl · 26/02/2015 14:07

He hits dogs! What a prick I had no idea about that.

FlameFireNora · 26/02/2015 19:04

Flaming torches ready everyone ? then I'll begin...............

I had a look on YouTube......one clip of a man saying someone had told him that someone had told her that CM had kicked a dog and scared it so much it had lost control of its bowels.....terrible abuse ! If its true...........

One clip of CM tapping a dog with his foot to get its attention, tapping, probably kinder than yanking on its lead.

Then the Holly incident, I'm not sure what he was trying to achieve, the owner had obviously seen her react before and was worried that she could react aggressively to a child or someone else winding her up by being in the wrong place at the wrong time, so CM put himself in a position that would provoke a response..........that bite was hard and deep, and he kicked her once, in what looked to me to be a fairly controlled manner, to get her to let go. Ok that means he's not a saint, but he doesn't advocate violence.

The whole "Pack leader" thing may be discredited but dogs are social animals and generally the human wants to be the one in control, call it pack leader or call it something else.

D0oinMeCleanin · 26/02/2015 19:19

You can get control using positive, reward based methods. You can also tackle aggression issues using positive, reward based methods (methods that are proven by real scientific studies and everyfink!)

You don't need to be violent or confrontational or a push a dog to it's limit to teach them good manners. In fact science proves that positively trained dogs are happier, more relaxed, responds better to training and are less likely to have aggression issues than those trained with coercive methods.

And CM 'taps' and yanks on the lead oddly despite believing he is in the right, CM has removed almost all trace of this clip from the interweb Hmm

He does a lot of good work with rescues and for the image of pitbulls in America, but that does not excuse the damage he causes to innocent dogs in the name of entertainment.

Arkkorox · 26/02/2015 19:26

The most dangerous thing is that people try and copy his training...

DunelmDoris · 27/02/2015 22:36

I'll just leave this here ...

TheCunnyFunt · 28/02/2015 09:06

CM has actually started promoting clicker training and positive training methods. Someone linked to his Facebook page a while ago where he'd written a great long post all about how great clicker training etc is!

Arkkorox · 28/02/2015 09:47

Yes I saw that. Very pleased!

BlueberryWafer · 28/02/2015 13:10

In the one where he takes the labrador's bowl of food (I think it's a lab?) and then afterwards the dog bites him it is clear that the dog is showing signs of anxiety and he is provoking the dog by staring it down and towering over it! The poor dog feels cornered - there are several camera men around her, and then CM towers over her - no wonder she went for him. I'm not condoning the aggressive behaviour, it's just he shouldn't be provoking dogs like that.

HoraceCope · 01/03/2015 10:12

but blueberry, I think he wanted the dog to react so he could cure it if its aggressive reaction, which is why he was asked to see dog,

OP posts:
Lilcamper · 01/03/2015 11:47

Good behaviourists would NEVER push a dog to react so they could 'cure' a behaviour. Good behaviourists keep the dog under threshold to work with them to change their feelings about whatever they are reacting to. Good behaviourists NEVER get bitten.

BlueberryWafer · 01/03/2015 11:49

The dog was so uneasy and nervy - whether he wanted a reaction or not he should not have pushed the doc! He even said himself "I was not expecting that" which suggests he thought he could get away with cockily intimidating a dog to the point where they're so scared that they snap. Cruelty in my eyes.
