Does your dog throw things?

Or is it just mine? He likes taking something - preferably hard and reasonably heavy - and kind of flicks his head while letting go with his teeth so it flies across the living room. Favourites are an antler chew, a bit of bone and a chunk of wood that was cut off the Christmas tree. These are casually tossed with reasonable force across the room so they bounce off our hardwood floor. (which is now exceedingly scratched). I gave him a rubber hockey puck I thought would be more gentle on the floor but it obviously is not as attractive.

Anyone else?

Yes! My understanding is that they think they've caught a small animal Grin makes me laugh. Sorry about your floor though! We don't have this problem just yet!

Velvetbee · 16/02/2015 15:38

Fir cones here. No floor damage but lots of bits.

nellieellie · 16/02/2015 15:39

Yes! Bones, branches, deer antlers. I've had to duck before!

brighthouse · 16/02/2015 15:39

My dog does it with his fluffy toy. He has it of to a fine art of it landing on my lap.

haggisaggis · 16/02/2015 15:41

It is funny - but when a large chunk of wood flies across the coffee table narrowly missing the tv it does get a bit scary. He is obviously having a lot of fun though.

Haha, yes! My dog likes to play fetch all by herself when she's having a mad half hour and does exactly what you described. She occasionally does it with her antler or Kong but the most satisfying one is her hard rubber ball, as it rolls away and she can pounce and chase it Grin stupid dog

imnottoofussed · 16/02/2015 15:42

mine does it with his dry dog biscuit things, he flings one around chases it about, rolls on it etc, he thinks it is amazing. I don't find it as amazing to find them left lying around the house where he has grown bored of playing with it.

insanityscratching · 16/02/2015 16:26

Yes another one who likes to throw here. He also thinks he's a cat and stalks his biscuit and pounces on it and then bats it about with his paws before finally eating it.

basildonbond · 16/02/2015 18:18

Yes, ddog throws his tennis ball into my lap and then sits there staring at it just in case I'm in any doubt as to what he wants me to do

Eastpoint · 16/02/2015 18:26

My female dog throws things at me or to chase herself if I am unresponsive. Our male dog just walks around carrying things but will fetch if he has to.

Yip mine too and last week he spilled my last glass of wine right of the table!

SistersOfPercy · 16/02/2015 23:35

Yes, he has a Kong wubba he throws at dh if he's ignoring him and he wants him to play with him.
If that fails he stands on the laptop.

It is impossible to ignore Murphy.

DishwasherDogs · 16/02/2015 23:41

Yes, 7 month old sprocker does.
He had a collar of shame for a few days after he was castrated, and discovered that he could scoop a toy up in the collar and fling it across the room. He learned to love that collar :)

Ohnodisaster · 16/02/2015 23:46

Yes! He especially likes to do it with broccoli florets! Not sure how we discovered this Confused

TheFantasticMrsFox · 17/02/2015 09:52

DDogs2&3 do this, though DDog2 is the master :o
He drop things off the sofa to hear the noise (stag antlers and a wooden floor- also scratched) or rolls a tennis ball across the floor to chase :o

moosemama · 17/02/2015 10:47

Mine flings all his toys, but he particularly likes to get his ball on a rope and fling it up in the air, where it frequently lands on the light fitting. He then sits there staring up at it until someone comes and rescues it. Daft dog! Grin

He also does a lot of leaping up and pouncing/pounding them down with his front paws, which wouldn't be so bad if he wasn't such a leggy beast. He makes the whole living room shakes when he gets going - but he's enjoying himself so much I don't have the heart to stop him. Lord knows what my neighbours must think. Grin

TheHoundsBitch · 17/02/2015 10:55

Yup, she likes to chuck her toy/ bone/ bed up in the air and then pounce on it like a cat!

kerstina · 18/02/2015 22:40

My mini schnauzer is always after my DS's furry hot water bottle I have to locate it and put it out of her reach but the other day I had forgot and could hear her ferreting about upstairs. I wondered what mischief she was up too when I heard a loud bang down the stairs. Skye was at the top she had thrown the bottle down the stairs and was looking defiantly down at me as if to say ha I found it! So funny.
