Are they normally high maintenance?

I'm looking after one for a friend and she just won't leave me alone.

Comes upstairs when she's not supposed to - even at home. Staring at me the whole time. I wake up in the morning and she's staring at me! She can open doors too that's how she gets upstairs!

I found her standing on the dining room table, licking the butter dish, having knocked off and smashing the ceramic lid. Grrrr.

When she's at home alone, she is in a cage. A big cage. She's 3.

Are they normally like this? I'm finding her hard work.

Yes. I had two, they are not known as 'velcro dogs' for nothing. Loving, but high maintenance! Is she allowed bones? Get a nice big meaty one from the butcher and it might keep her busy for a wee while.

GSPs love their humans. I'm sure she's missing her owner and looking for reassurance from you.

They are terrible thiefs though, mine is forever counter surfing. He's much worse than his bigger GSD brother.

Yes. She might be missing her owner but I am already missing my smashed butter dish.

A friend has a wire haired German Pointer and much as she loves him he drives her crazy at times.Well most of the time !He's needy and whines if there's a whiff of activity that may mean someone's going out, coming in and although not aggressive at all or unsociable with other dogs - which is a plus - she says she would never have another one.Once he settles down in the evenings he's a delight - but during the day any change in routine just seems to throw him.And he is with her virtually all day.I looked after him in the recent past, along with other dogs in my home and he was hard work.He makes my Springer Spaniels look chilled.

I have a Wirehaired and dh's family have always had shorthairs. They are highly, highly affectionate dogs and love being in contact with their humans. Which you either like, or find insanely annoying! Ours is a total pain in the arse and I won't have another. She kills anything, steals food like she's starving (she is NOT!),hates being left alone and gets destructive, and follows me from room to room. Despite all of this, I do love her.

And they are such beautiful looking dogs.

Adarajames · 19/02/2015 05:49

Mines pointer cross and yes, lurves her people or anyone giving fuss sometimes, and has springs for legs and bounces everywhere, but it's great having something that loves me so much when I'm feeling crap (long term health issues), and even better when I'm need of cuddles as she does them so very well

I look after a German Pointer. He follows me round the house even to the loo. I can never leave him on his own. He never takes food, but just wants human company.
He loves being with children and charges round with them.

He is a beautiful creature but quite hard work at times.
