Our wait is good, but how to release calmly?!

Just that ^ really.

DDogs1&2 will "wait" beautifully, walk to heel etc. As working cockers this has taken some perseverance but I'm reasonably happy with it. DDog3 will get there eventually I'm sure

So all is good until I release them. Then it's an all out mission to get away as fast as possible, if there's more than one it becomes a barking, barging race Hmm If there's just one there still the overwhelming feeling of being released after several years solitary confinement, rather than 30 seconds while I open a gate.

Is this a breed thing? Can I do anything to try and encourage a more sedate entrance back to normal service? Or should I just remain devoutly thankful that we can at least achieve a wait at all? :o

Mine is pretty much a launched rocket at 'ok' from a wait too, a pointer x probably spaniel, I settle for at least she does now manage the wait (most of the time and as long as no squrrels nearby!) ! Grin

Oh and we're still workin on the heel bit!

What are you releasing to?

Make the release target calm and boring (are you sure you want a slow release?) Thinking of agility people would be desperate for a fast release Smile

I normally just say "ok". My voice is calm and quiet as the dogs don't need me being crazy excited as well!

Actually, the agility release is very similar to what we have here Hmm I'm not really sure what I want, more what I don't want :o
