Vacuum cleaner recommendations please

So I have a CKCS that just loves to leave her fur everywhere, particularly for some reason the stairs! I currently have a vax air3 complete (about 2 years old) which seems to have lost all suction when using the hose. It's taking me over an hour to hoover just the stairs and even at the end they still look covered in fur.

I've seen the Dyson animal cordless vaxuum cleaner currently reduced to £279 and wondering if it is worth the investment. Does anyone have this and can recommend it, or even better recommend something which is good but cheaper? I've got a one year old DD and another DC on the way so would really rather not be spending all this time trying to clean the stairs!

Miele cat and dog - it's brilliant Smile

Naturegirl82 · 07/02/2015 18:36

Thanks will have a look. I love my dog I really do but her fur is driving me mad! I hate housework at the best of times but it's just getting ridiculous with the stairs. Just had my vax apart and no blockages or blocked filters so no idea why it's lost suction

I second the Miele cat and dog. I got one from an MN product test and it's great.

badoomtish · 07/02/2015 23:47

Miele Cat and Dog. Mine is almost 9 years old, it's had one £40 service in all its time and hasn't ever let me down. Brilliant :)

DramaAlpaca · 07/02/2015 23:57

Another vote for the Miele Cat & Dog.

madwomanacrosstheroad · 07/02/2015 23:58

Miele cat and dog. Bought mine when DD1 was a couple of weeks old. She has turned fourteen recently. Never serviced. Household with cats and a dog and frequent building work, lots of kids running in and out. It really is good and cheaper than Dyson.

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 07/02/2015 23:59

Miele models have all changed since that EU thing about reducing the motor power so the ones people have had ages are different but the new cat & dog models (c2 & c3) are probably just as good

I've got a non-catanddog (c1); it's very powerful (& much cheaper) & quite good on cat hair but probably not as good as the other 2

DramaAlpaca · 08/02/2015 00:08

Mine is a new one, bought in January. It's a C3 and I highly recommend it.

Panicmode1 · 08/02/2015 19:38

We have a very old Miele Cat and Dog too - about 8 years old, 4 children, building work and now a small puppy and it keeps on going!

Naturegirl82 · 08/02/2015 20:47

Looks like miele is the way to go then. I've always had uprights before so wondering how big a change it is to a cylinder. I'm guessing the c rating is its capacity? C3 is still £250! Might just have to spend the money and be done with it.

No, there are lots of different C3s and C2s, you need to read the small print Confused

Naturegirl82 · 08/02/2015 22:30

theone I was only looking at the dog and cat models.

Seems very little difference between the models apart from the c3 has better performance ratings but lower energy consumption.

Oh sorry! I just got bemused by the Miele website. It seemed easier to understand in the old days when they had completely different model numbers!

The one I've got now is 1400w but seems to suck harder than my old one which is 2000w. Goodness knows what they've done to the motors.

Naturegirl82 · 09/02/2015 09:37

Theone yep there seems to be an excessive amount of miele models about!

Hmm, the cat and dog c3 only seems to have a carpet cleaning class of C. Is it because of the turbobrush that makes it so good then I wonder.

I can see me spending quite a bit of time researching this!

Vacuum cleaner is one household appliance which we rely on to clean our home. Therefore in my point of you should take care of 3 things if you are going to buy new one, there are: Filter based, Cyclone and Multi cyclone (normally dual)

Naturegirl82 · 09/02/2015 10:52

The reviews of the miele look really good, and I've found the C3 on offer for £199.99 including a set of bags which seems like a good deal. May just have to bite the bullet and go for it.

So glad I posted here. I knew the collective wisdom of MN dog owners would help Smile

That's a fantastic price! Smile

The bags are usually £8 upwards too. Don't bother buying non-Miele bags, they're nothing like as good.

Izzy24 · 09/02/2015 10:58

Amazon for Miele bags .

SpicyBeat · 09/02/2015 12:38

I love my C3. Much better than my previous Dyson. Go for it!

Naturegirl82 · 13/02/2015 09:54

C3 arrives tomorrow. Smile Hopefully fairly early so I can give it a try! Hoping it is going to transform my housework and make it a breeze!

You will be amazed, Naturegirl Smile - it will try to suck your carpets off the floor!

DarkBlueEyes · 13/02/2015 10:19

Hate Dysons, except for the cordless which I will admit is good.

Miele Cat and Dog and in fact any Miele cylinder is far superior to Dyson IME - I have had both and know which I prefer. You can buy unbranded bags which are cheap and do the job just as well.

Naturegirl82 · 13/02/2015 10:20

Theone really sadly I'm quite excited! It will be nice to feel like my house is actually clean for once!

Miele cat and dog recommendation here too!
Mine also came from a mumsnet product test, and I'm really really impressed with it.

OliviaBenson · 14/02/2015 16:31

Where did you find the Miele for that price? I need one but haven't seen it at such a bargain price!!
