Picking up new pup????????

We will take a crate with us, but probably not use it unless we have to. I think it would be more appropriate to leave the other dogs at home. So... is this right? What about getting home? How to introduce the pups to the dogs here? We have always had everyone with us when we have come home with a new dog, but we have always had relatively adult dogs who have been vaccinated and are as safe as they can be. With a puppy???

Wellll... She knows her name, has perfect recall, and is fully housetrainedGrin This is her 2nd day. Both nights have been good. She has cried briefly when we put her to bed, then sleeps through until the other dogs wake up and bark at stupid o'clock in the morning. She doesn't really know what grass is for, and hell, what's the difference between a carpet and grass?!! The younger boy who's 3 chewed his first pair of knickers today. This is to be welcomed. He had a horrible puppyhood and is learning how to be a dog. I have also detected a very slight bit of extra spring in his step. I hope it lasts!
We are armed with a UV light, gallons of Simple Solution, industrial (literally) quantities of bio soap powder, and (ahem)Confused masses to chew on. Our eldest (17) has barely acknowledged the pup and is bimbling around taking no notice of her.
In her first 2 days, Rora has shown herself to be a hoarder. She has masses of bits in her bed including important reading matter. I think so far so good. Today she met the recycling van and had to go right up close. She's been to see the children at the school and watched the boys race up and down the fence making sure all the people walk on by.

Well that all sounds just marvellous. Grin

The sleeping through is good. I'm dreading having to keep getting up at night.

Just trod in a pup turd. Then she did a massive wee in the kitchen. Then she climbed the stairs... The wall to wall carpets are hideous and I feel stupid mopping them. Oh joy!!Grin I'm sure I won't be grinning so much when it all settles down. At least we're booked onto a pup training course and the woman running it is brilliant.

Well there's hope then. Grin

Glad your younger boy is ok. That was my biggest worry, when we were planning a new pup with old boy still around, that it wouldn't upset him in any way. A lot of people say it works out and they becone best friends.

Hope there's not too much pup turd. Grin

The socialisation sounds good though. You need to take them absolutely everywhere at this stage don't you, well, once they've had their jabs. I'm not looking forward to carrying a puppy around for a week that needs a wee every fifteen minutes. Will look into exact timescales nearer the time.

Am quite looking forward to taking a cute little puppy out for walks though and watching everybody go 'awww' and feeling ever so pleased!

You have to carry them everywhere before they've had their jabs! They don't need a wee every 15 mins. I haven't been counting how many poos and how many wees. And it's crap trying to be outside in the garden with a spade and a fork and loads of treats... Pup has been outside for a long time today because the garden is an unholy mess. It's not a good garden for pups - full of bulbs and goodness knows what. Frankly I wouldn't want to eat the plants, but I'm not a dog. Yes, everyone goes awwww, and they're cuddlesome, and they're wrigglesome and they've got sharp little claws and sharp little teeth... Vet on Thurs for first vaccinations! Have you sorted out insurance yet? If you're going to insure, best to do it ASAP as it takes a couple of weeks before you can make a claim. You may have some cover with the new pup. We didn't so starting from scratch.

It's not born yet. Grin Litter due in a couple of weeks so you'll be a bit ahead of me.

You can be my calming influence when I'm on here talking about stepping in puppy poo. You can mop my brow and tell me it gets better. Grin
