We are thinking about getting another dog. So far we've re-homed 4 rescue dogs, 3 from the doggy loony bin, so a lot of my work has been rehabilitation. before getting on with training. This time, I would ideally like to start with a pup, and go through all the chewing, socialisation, training, lack of training, teenagerhood etc... I know I have forgotton a lot of how awful it can be, a bit like giving birth.

Although I think I know what I want, more importantly we have 3 adult dogs to consider, not least our eldest who's 17'ish. I have not had much experience of bringing a new dog into the house without the help of an army of people in rescue centres lining us up with suitable animals, and I don't want to start a fight. Of course the pups are too young to meet our lot, so I'm not sure if I'm being really stupid or how to settle a potential new member of the family into the household. Our oldie is still sprightly for her age, and still enjoys meeting new dogs. I just don't know if a pup would be a benefit or a curse for her. The boys would probably be fine.

Ooh, puppy!!
Obviously I have absolutely no advice to offer, just wanted to join in the excitement of a potential new family member.
Breeds involved?
Why this puppy / why now etc?

We are looking at a couple of border collie pups, a boy and a girl. All our dogs are bcs of one sort or another. I feel a bit guilty that I would like to start with a puppy this time, especially when there are so many rescue dogs out there.

If you have valid reason for getting a pup then do so! Sounds like you have 'done your bit' regarding the rescue route!

I'm not sure if there really is a 'valid' reason to get a pup. I would just like to start from scratch with a dog, to go through all the growing up bits and help a dog from the beginning instead of having to sort out the crap that other people leave. Either way it's not easy! I feel like a traitor. Anyway we are just going to have a look today, going in the mind that it may be completely unsuitable and mad, or it may be doable. Really I don't know, and the dogs we have already are very, very important, though we have room for another one!

That's that then. Pups seem well and happy. At home with mum. Health checks in order. Questions answered, and parents healthy. We will keep in contact with the breeder. Hope the pup fits in! So... at the weekend we add to our family!
