Whippet - non-fart inducing dry food

My 3 year old whippet has been on Bakers complete for a while. He doesn't really like it and seems to be particularly farty at the moment. He has a delicate stomach, which is not a good combination when he's also a terrible thief and the children aren't careful about keeping food out of his reach. Anyway, I wondered if anyone could recommend a dry food that he might prefer and which might help control the flatulence. I don't mind spending a bit more than the Bakers costs, if it's worth it.

Anything is better than bakers tbh...you can look up dog foods here

Thanks for reply. I will have a look. He was on Wainrights for a while, but then refused to eat that and at least ate Bakers. Will see if can find something more suitable.

our dog had a similar problem with Royal Canin and we switched to a dry food with no wheat in, called Canagen (other brands are availabl ethe important thing is no wheat!) It is not cheap but IMO worth it not to have the eye-watering stench every evening.
He is much much better and we can tell when he's stolen bread.

Yes, I think his wind maybe wheat related - he tries to get to the duck bread people throw in the park, before I do and it's definitely worse if he does. Will look for a wheat free brand.

Feeding your dog Bakers is the equivalent of feeding your children Macdonalds, or so I've heard. Dogs love it because it's full of fat and sugar and crap. No wonder your dog farts! Decent dog food doesn't contain cereals. That dog food link is very good, give it a look.

My lurchers have Burns Pork and Potato - it doesn't have any grains, and suits their sensitive tummies very well

mistlethrush · 26/01/2015 21:57

My lurcher is on JWB lamb and rice and is remarkably non-fart inducing.

Bakers is worse than McD's. Add in some multicoloured sweets into the mix and you might be getting close.

Another whippet doing well on the Burns sensitive formula here. Our boy also has quite a delicate tummy and doesn't tolerate anything wheat-based very well.

Fewer ingredients and no wheat is the way to go IMO. Our whippet is quite a hardy sort but the collie's a big weak stomached pansy. We feed them skinners duck and rice.

I'm not sure I can even class Bakers as dog food tbh. Horrible stuff.
