Has anyone had a dog injured while with a dogwalker?

If so, who paid for the injury?
Our dog was hit by a car while with a dog walker last week and required intensive care to save her life and is having orthopedic surgery tomorrow.
Our insurance will pay for some, but not all of her treatment but people have suggested we ask the dog walker if her insurance will cover it.
Or AIBU even asking?

Oh my response was to original op. I think it's change dog walkers if I was you as you don't even trust this one.

I've rung the dog walker and asked but she only has insurance if a dog in her care bites someone or causes another injury somehow. She's offered me free walks...
Yes, Viva, I don't think 4K is enough. Our other dog is insured for £6K and I think I will raise that too.

I hope your insurance company will meet the first £4k. If they’re aware that your dog was in the charge of a professional, you may find they refuse the claim entirely.

This incident happened 7 years ago and our dog sadly didn't survive her injuries.
It was not the dog walker's fault. Unbeknown to her, a fence had been taken down in a previously safe area and when our dog chased a fox, she ran onto the road.
The total bill was 8K and we were insured for £4K of those.
It was a lesson to us to get better insurance as dogs are unpredictable and accidents happen.

So sorry to hear that.
I hope someone resurrecting this zombie thread hasn’t been too upsetting for you x

I’d actually be surprised if your insurance paid for this if they knew the circumstances and that your dog was with a dog walker at the time. Most insurance policies only cover injuries when with the owner, friends or family. The dog walker absolutely should have insurance to cover your dog in these circumstances, the fact they are offering you free walkers suggests to me they know they have been caught out massively.
I wouldn’t use them again unless they bought proper cover.

@MNHQ perhaps close this or ask people to read the update before commenting as the poor OP has now had a zombie thread revived which they probably don’t want to be reminded about!
