Tried a quote with petplan amd came up with £15 per month im sure their advert said £3 per month. I'd like some recommendations on insurers and ones to avoid it's for a 2yr American Bull Terrier cross breed perfect health so not likely to be using the plan would like between £5-£10 quotes if anyone pays that Smile

Petplan really are the best insurance company - they have a reputation for paying out and they don't do big price hikes at renewal time.

£15 seems cheap to me, they quoted my dog at £50 as a puppy...I went with a cheaper company and 2 years later I'm now paying over £100 a month, but I'm stuck with it because he developed a load of health problems.

If you do find £5 to 10 quotes they are likely to be for really poor cover. For example I have a client who pays around this amount it turns out she is only covered to £500 per condition which in this day and age barely scratches the surface.

Oh so £15 is actually good then Smile i thought it was a lot i want her properly covered in case she needs an op or anything serious I'll go with petplan then Grin

You want to make sure it is a 'lifetime' policy and I would be looking for about £10K per condition per year.

natureplantar101 · 26/01/2015 23:18

i earn less than 10k per year lol dont think i can stretch to more than £15-20 a month for her its only for emergencies anyway and to get her signed up to a good vet and chipped

Just beware. I am with Tesco and took the policy last year. Pretty decent cover from memory for £16 a month. I have made no claims and the renewal for this year has hiked up to £27 a month. This it seems is what they do Confused.

I'm with morethan and they have been really good. I pay £14 pm but I have the premium cover

£15 is cheap! My lab costs £60 a month on petplan (although he is 10 and the cost went up by about 10% a year). It has the best cover, as a PP said, cheaper insurance doesn't cover some breed genetic dispositions like hip dysphasia where the bill can run into thousands, or doesn't cover prescriptions for the life of the animal. It's just not worth the risk to take out cheap insurance IMO, you never know what might happen. It reassures me that whatever happens to DDog we will be able to afford to treat him.

natureplantar101 · 28/01/2015 17:34

well im re considering now as ive been offered a higher paid job it isn't certain yet but ifbi get it her insurance will be petplan premium cover for £43 a month which covers up to 12k a year Smile if not she can have the £17 cover one which will still cover her for everything
