So this 5 mins a month walking time...how does it work?

Pup is allowed to start walks next weekend, and the vet told me about being wary of over exercising. I know that she can do 5 mins per month, but I am confused as to how much time she is then allowed to run around/play for at home in the garden - she's playing with the children quite a bit - how much is too much? Or, if we walk to the park (about 5 mins away) do we then have to turn straight round or can she potter about and sniff things etc?! and if so, for how long?

(She's a golden retriever puppy if that helps!)

From what I can gather mooching doesn't count.
It's the proper on lead walking where you dictate the pace that should be limited.
We have to be careful about too much excited play with the dc especially at weekends too as the adrenalin can take them past the natural need to rest.
So frustrating I know!

Yes, I realised that the puppy needed FAR more sleep than she was getting on the first day that the schools went back - we'd only had her a week and she slept almost all day!!

My pup is completely different when it's just us at home - will do a bit of training in house, have a snooze, wander along the beach, have a snooze, eat, snooze etc.
When kids are around he charges about with them to the neglect of everything else, sleep, food etc.
Are you crate training? Our pup only tolerates crate so we have a comfy bed in a quiet room for him so he can get away from the bedlam that is my house at weekends.

She does have a crate yes, and she escapes to it when she wants a snooze/time out. It's in our kitchen diner - which is fairly busy, but I do encourage the children to go out and do things elsewhere. She's not reliably house trained yet (she's only 10 weeks and we've only had her a week - but we're getting there) and so I don't want her in the rest of the (carpeted) house just yet!
