P.A.U.L procedure for elbow dysplasia

Has anyone come across this? My dog has been referred to a specialist vet for a consultation about this - apparently it is suitable for young dogs, alters the way the forces bear upon the joint so halts any arthritis, BUT it is a relatively new procedure. Would love to hear from anyone who has experience of this.

I discussed it with an ortho specialist...I'm not sure that counts as experience though, lol.

That was two years ago, so it's not brand brand new if you see what I mean.

That sounds like I was just randomly going, pfft, not that new, lol.

What I mean is if they were talking to me about it 2 years ago as an option...they've been doing it a wee while rather than it still being brand new and a bit experimental.

Get stats from the surgeon, they should keep them about how many procedures, success rates and long term follow up.

Yes, thanks for these replies - I will ask the surgeon for more info. Have googled it obviously - seems to have been around about 5yrs, and reasonably successful - no long term follow-up though in terms of how dogs affected when older

is this Noel Fitzpatrick? I know he is very keen on the fact that elbow dysplasia is caused by abnormal bone and muscle alignment exerting abnormal forces, it certainly seems to make sense when he explains it (though don't ask me to repeat it!). Advantage in a young dog is obviously that you are correcting the underlying problem than than just scraping out the joint and sorting out damage already there. I think there is some disagreement however between the top orthopaedic people.

Muddiboots, no, its not Noel Fitzpatrick - apparently he doesn't do this procedure - he does something similar but only for older dogs with really bad dysplasia (I think). We are going to Davies vets.
