Can anybody recommend a good bed for a pointy hound?

After much deliberation we are (maybe) close to getting a greyhound

I've been looking at large, well-upholstered dog bed and keep coming back to Orvis - they look so comfortable I want to sleep in one and they come highly recommended.

But they are £££. And come from the States, I think? Is there a UK equivalent? I am happy to spend that kind of money for quality that will last but would of course not mind spending less Wink.

Soo, pointy owners, what do you hounds sleep on?

Excitedly yours,

PD.

I can second the recommendation for the Tuffies luxury fleece cover - Tuffies very obligingly made one to the dimensions of a big chunk of memory foam I had, and now I can barely prise my dog off it, of a morning. He also has a Tuffies nest but it's not quite as soft and squidgy as I hoped it'd be, although much easier to clean!

LoathsomeDrab · 06/01/2015 18:25

Tuffies have recently started doing a new cover for their mattress beds which has extra material on the top so dogs can burrow under it, would likely go down very well in a house with pointy hounds Grin

Whatever dog bed you buy he will prefer your sofa and will sneak onto it everytime your back is turned.
When you turf him off sofa so you can sit on it he will lie in his expensive bed and glare balefully at you until you move. At which point he will nick your seat.
Which is why my pointy hound has a double duvet folded in half on the floor, by the radiator and window.

I know I am about to lose my favourite spot on the sofa - but we have 2 sofas, so we should be ok, shouldn't we? I've not discussed this with DH yet - what he does not know, cannot worry him…

My dh does not like Hullygully AT ALL, he says she is a bothersome ill trained spoilt hound but plays with her when I'm not looking and buys her presents I'm sure your dh can suffer magnanimously too.

Honeydragon · 06/01/2015 22:30

I am genuinely thrilled for you, your thread has very much made me happy.

Smile

I keep telling myself that I am not in a rush and I am waiting for the right dog (and a dog for whom we are the right family - that might be harder to achieve; could I gag my boys for a while, do you think? Just until the hound is no longer terrified of them?)

I couldn't sleep last night because i was so excited (and coming down with a cold) and I don't even have a quote for the bloody fence yet!

It will be all over MN as and when we get the beast, but don't hold you breath in the meantime Sad

Pointy dogs or any other dog are worth waiting for.

schloss · 06/01/2015 22:43

I mentioned on another post about Kennel Mate bed, very deep and squishy so the dogs sink into them!

TheCunnyFunt · 06/01/2015 23:23

Glitter it might possibly have been me that suggested a memory foam off cut from ebay, I first got Sprocket one a couple of months after we first got him (nearly 3yrs ago) and apart from being 'roughened up' in a few places where he's dug it with his monster talons, it's still fine. It's in his upstairs bed. I have suggested them quite a lot on here as they're such a bargain. His Orvis bed is wonderful and I wholeheartedly recommend them, but I don't think I could ever justify spending almost £300 on a dog bed myself (my own bed and mattress didn't cost anywhere near that!). But then again we don't have the money to spend on expensive dog beds.

PacificDogwood · 09/01/2015 20:25

Re memory foam cut-offs: what term should I search for on ebay?
I am getting lots of mattresses and various smaller pieces, but all with the same photograph?
Should I distrust that?

PacificDogwood · 09/01/2015 20:58

Oh CharleyChau is very posh and very, very £££ Grin

The ebay seller I got mine from used the same pic for all the off cut listings they do, you have to read the descriptions to see the dimensions, although the one I got mine from said they can do made to measure pieces and they'd send you a paypal invoice :) hope this helps!

TheCunnyFunt · 09/01/2015 23:16

For example this one says in the description to contact them with your measurements and they'll cut it to size for you. Smile If you're unsure of the size you may need in the future I can measure Sprockets mattress if you like? Should give you an idea of how big you'll need it!

PacificDogwood · 10/01/2015 12:36

Ah, thank you!
I got nothing when I searched for 'memory foam off cut'.

I will wait until we have identified a likely hound and get them onto a folded single duvet first of all before I invest more heavily, I think.
